Might be back to 735XT Quick :(

Only 2 days with fenix 5 and I like to look of the watch, but already the Stryd Power meter ConnectIQ data drops out often making that data useless for me and we are seeing Betas flying out to fix things already. I had the 735 for almost a year and it worked from Day 1 and has had 1 update and no Betas and I never had an issue with Stryd.

Have not fully tested GPS against 735 for running yet, but if it is as others are showing (less accurate tracks and possibly under accruing distance) I am definitely out quick here.

Forgot what the fenix 3 experience was like after so long, but now I am reminded quickly. Garmin just needs to move this entire line of wearables under the team responsible for running watches.

I believe that DCRainmaker (Ray Maker) mentioned in his review in the bugs section a known issue with the Stryd and Garmin is aware and working on it.
  • I'm superhappy with my 735xt, I don't even consider changing :)

OK guys, I am out. Tested today on recent Beta and distance accrual was horrendous on an easy route compared to 100s of runs on this route and compared to my 735XT on my other wrist (see GPA Accuracy thread for my data). In addition Stryd dropped out multiple times and made that data useless as well.

Not wasting any more time on this watch, back it goes.

    Good luck everyone.

    Sorry to hear...

My F5s will be in on Monday 4/3. It'll be interesting to see what my experiences are. I have the 735XT too and had the F3HR but decided to go with the 735XT because of Garmin for giving so little memory and not making it compatible with the latest development tools (for the life of me I can't remember what it's called) and then the issues with footpod calibration which isn't really an issue unless you wanted to use GPS to auto calibrate your footpod. Other than that I liked the Fenix 3HR, the looks, the feel and I really can't say I had issues with GPS either so I expect I'll like the F5s. I do plan to keep my 735XT and don't think I'll go with the 935 as I'm hoping my experiences are as good with the F5s as they were with the F3HR. Hope you find the device that meet's your requirements. Good luck, see you around.
  • Agreed.....needs to go back

Super disappointed. Stryd drops like crazy. Also, overall Ant+ connectivity seems to be really bad. I did a 45 mile bike ride today and there are signal drops every other minute. Normalized Power and average power for that matter are 30 watts apart when compared to the recording of my Edge 1000. Not sure why Garmin always manages to deliver realy crap in the beginning. My F3 went back twice two years ago. Arrgh. Really want this watch to work. It looks awesome and it's most definitely a significant step up from the F3.

I am not seeing any Stryd dropouts at all???
  • If it doesn't work for you then return and move on. But complaining about something that they are working on fixing and complaining that firmware is "flying out" is perhaps a bit overly dramatic. Probably the reason your 735 hardly needed updating is that I'm pretty sure the inside is the same thing as a 235 they just turned a bunch of stuff off in the 235 on the software side. The 235 had at least a few software updates that happened probably before the 735 made it out. I look at software updates as a good thing because that means they are actively fixing little details.

I post it so others can get a real view from an actual real world user before they spend their money on this watch. Instead of worrying about giving me advice about how I should spend my time and money, why don't you better spend it posting real information and data?

I am really surprised by this, everyone I have checked with has had these drop out issues including DCR (reference his review and data in Strava). I have multiple dropouts in an hour (10+).

    Pozo look

Yes forum should be exactly for that. I had bought F3, F3HR and it is the first time I return something back. I don't mind update and betas.. But this core issue of poor ANT connectivity in first release is beyond me.. Hope they fix it soon then I buy it again... So I moved on using F3HR which is fine with stryd. I wish I had waited a bit and looked at the forum before purchasing it but was easy to return it.

Please Garmin fix this issue so I can get it again.

For the one not having the issue with stryd then lucky, lucky you.. Could be production issues?

Thanks I try to do so. Like in the GPS accuracy thread this morning when I could happily report that my F5 did a certified 10k course yesterday reporting back 6.24 miles. Can't get better than that if you ask me. Especially considering started probably 30 feet behind the starting line that eats into the 0.02 overage.

I just think firmware revisions "flying out" when they have one beta version available after the thing has been in end users hands for over 3 weeks now is being quite dramatic.
