Updating

I have seen several times a day when exploring menues etc, that the watch suddenly changes its watchface to "Updating" for a couple of seconds then returning to the watchface (not back to the menus I was currently in).

Anyone seen anything similar? This is a Garmin Fenix 5 Sapphire version.

Perhaps a soft crash re-loading the GUI?

Also when I was out running, sometimes the Running Watch Face inverted the colors for some seconds. Basically went from white background to black background. Anyone else seen this, or knows why that is?

Yep my F5 Sapphire has done it a few times "Updating", in fact it just did it a few seconds ago after looking at the heart rate widget. No idea why.

For me it can show at times for a normal sync, and you get it a bit more often if you have two watches on the same account and "TrueUp" comes into play. One watch syncs, and then the other is updated with the data.

I have seen this behavior on many Garmin Watches, including my current 735XT as well. When I raised this with Garmin as it can also happen during an Activity, they said it was a known issue that they were developing a fix for.

The inverted colors during an activity is supposed to indicate that you are paused. Do you have auto pause enabled?

The inverted colors are actually probably caused by having auto climb on. Check your settings for the activity.

Yes, I do have auto climb on! Thought it was a good idea to register altitude changes automatically. I see now that the screen is configured to be inverted when this happens and it can display a different Watch Face Would you recommend to turn that off?

Good to see I'm not the only one with the updating screen.

The whole point of auto climb is for your watch to let you know when you start climbing, when you do it inverts colors and can automatically switch to a different data screen (to show you something specific to elevation, it's assumed). So there is no recommendation per se, it's what you think makes sense for that activity and if you want the functionality or not.

I have it turned on for mountain biking because I want to see grade and elevation when I'm pushing up a hill.
