Round trip course generation: turn by turn popups?

I used the round trip course generation tool for the first time today. Overall, it was pretty neat and worked well.

One thing I wasn't expecting was the lack of turn-by-turn popup alerts, like you would get if following a course generated by ridewithgps. Instead, the watch just beeped and displayed the map screen as I was approaching each turn.

Is there a setting somewhere that I need to toggle to get turn-by-turn notifications to automatically display? Obviously the watch has them, as I can see them when selecting which of the 3 generated courses to do and again while navigating by long pressing menu and selecting "Turn By Turn"

Edit: Also, FWIW, the navigation bug didn't seem to display, even though it was enabled. Nor did the elevation chart.

Some additional information:

When doing "normal" navigation (such as navigating to a saved location), the popups, elevation screen and navigation bug all work properly when using the Cycle app, but not the Run app. I was able to narrow the issue down to the Routing setting: when set to "Pedestrian" or "Hiking", the turn by turn popups, elevation screen and navigation bug don't work. When set to "Cycling" or "Automobile", they work like I originally expected.

When navigating a watch-created "Round Trip Course", the popups, elevation screen and navigation bug never appear, regardless of the Routing setting.

I think in the pedestrian and hike app, the turn by turn popups aren't working by default

I've been talking to Garmin support and playing with it more and I think I was wrong about the behavior being tied to the Routing type like I said above. It appears that the turn-by-turn popups, elevation chart and navigation bug just don't work when you use the on-watch "Round-Trip Course" feature. All three of those features work properly when I navigate to a saved location for both the Run and Cycle app.

Interesting. Do you know how you can disable the turn by turn alerts? I sent a pretty straight track to the watch and it kept alerting me to turn... super annoying.
