calories count issue

Hi everybody,

I'm a proud owner of a garmin fenix 5s. Till now, I love it. It has replaced my 735 XT.

I've got a little issue with the calories counter.
There's a huge difference between the result I had with the 735xt.
For instance, here's a spinning session :

result with the 5s: 913 cal : https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1646036053

result with the 735xt: 1,096 cal : https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1646036053

My fenix 5s get exactly the same parameters than my 735xt.
height : 189cm, weight: 80kg

Could you help me out or explain me the calculation behind this mystery.

Thanks a lot,

Have a good day
  • Garmin/Firstbeat constantly update their algorithms, I used several Garmin devices and each of them reported more or less different calories burned. Another thing is the value is nothing more than an estimate, so it is not advised to take it very seriously. I use it as an indicator for comparison between activities recorded on the same device only.

    Thanks for the reply,
it's just to get an idea, because I use it to fuel up during long event.
I just have to adjust my preparation now.

    kind regards

Related to what TOM.SHANE said the FirstBeat algorithms take a few workouts to learn your body. It's typical to see some unusual results for the first few workouts as it builds up data on you to base its calculations on.
