Initial Reports of lockups during activies, particularly Ultras ?

Hi.
We have thread about OHRM consistency an accuracy. (no worse then F3HR)
We have thread about GPS accuracy (again no worse then F3/F3HR)

One thing that while infrequent, seemed to plague Ultra runners more ( > 50k) was lockups during an activity.
Usually a hard reset was needed to recover, sometimes if lucky you would be able "resume" but you'd have a section of flat-lined in the GPS track.

Any early reports from F5x users about lockup? Anyone run any Ultras? wooded, vertical, technical type of stuff to really challenge the "new" processor??

17hr Hundred, 7-8 hour 50m? You must have quite the trophy room, those are top elite numbers? I'm significantly slower than that. My 50s tend to be in the 11 to 13 hour range. and my only hundred, Superior in 2015, was about 35.

needless to say, I need to recharge during runs. You're making it on a 1 charge. Very nice

Actually thinking about it I have always had GLONASS switched off for my Fenix 3 so maybe that may explain the extra battery drain. Trial and error at the moment but that was the same with my Fenix 3 and it tracked Ultra distances very well.

i just reread this. "map navigation with the map on most of the time". In your follow up you said breadcrumb. Did you preload some route and your F3 was actually navigating? Or was it the standard "map" screen. that is just display only of the current track up to that point, but is not navigating/following some preloaded track.

All my races I pre-loaded the GPX that the organisers provide. With the Fenix 3 I just followed the line which roughly told you when you need to turn but did give you confidence you were on the right trail. The fenix 5 is amazing as you now can see a map with the pre-loaded route, you can see road junctions clearly and you can see the path your on and any others that you pass. It gives you loads more confidence you are on the correct path especially when there are paths close togther.

holy cow! thats so cool. I am not even sure that I new that capability existed. Then I dont recall ever hearing about GPX from organizers. I'm probably doing more local/region event, and maybe they are not big enough. Though the Superior 100, is pretty well known. I have a buddy running so we have 4 eyes on the trail, only once did we venture off for many 100 yards are so during the night. I cant wait for my F5x to come. There is a place my buddy run locally, but I dont know the trails that well. THis would be a PERFECT time to try that capability out. I would just need his GPX file from garmin connect or strava? I NEED to learn how to do this

Yep just copy a GPX from anywhere to the watch. Garmin Connect is the easiest way to transfer if you already have the activity/course saved but itf not transfer when the watch is plugged into your PC..

That's exactly why I got a 5X - I'm fed up adding more distance than's needed! :-) Glad to hear it's working well. I have a 50K on Saturday with a part I'm not familiar...I'm really looking forward to seeing how the F5X performs.

BTW - here's my upcoming race on mapmyrun - it has an export to GPX capability....easy to download and move into Garmin Connect.
