Fenix 5s band too short - male runner with medium wrists

It is with disappointment that I discovered that the band of the f5s is too short.
I chose the f5s for its subtle size and more conservative / refined looks, but never expected the strap to be shorter than usual.

I know the f5s is aimed at female runners / smaller wrists, but what if you have women with big wrists?
Then it isn't fair to say that the watch is aimed at female runners?
And how about men wanting something more formal and less rugged, but with typical male wrists?

So I really hope Garmin will provide a 20mm quick fit band longer than the standard one.
I have in the meantime other good alternative replacements from third parties: leather, silicone and kevlar bands and they all look and feel great, but it will be great to be able to use the benefit of the quick fit bands.

Found this out at well. My wrist is about 7.5", and it barely fit. It was too too tight to wear all the time and I needed to return it. Looks like the Fenix 5 will be the path for me.

    Sorry to hear...

But you are able to use other bands correct? That mean you were able to remove the pins that hold the bands on the F5s correct? I just measured my wrist and it's micrometers shy of 7". I thought that was small. I'm 5'11" and weighing in at 166lbs how thin does a person have to be!?

Just noticed you didn't say what size you wrist is adammiarka did though. Btw how large are your wrists?

That's something I hadn't considered when I ordered my f5S. There's zero information on any of the QuickFit pages for any size of these bands and nothing on any of the f5 pages. That's a serious oversight on my part and Garmin's. Now I'm wondering if it's going to fit my wrist as mine are a hair over 7" at the narrowest. And here I thought I had small wrists. I'm especially worried because I bought one with a metal band. Can someone with a f5S measure the band and watch?

EDIT: Amazon's product page shows the dimensions for the QuickFit 20 bands as 0.2 x 8 x 1. So take into account a little off the ends for holes and how it fastens and you're probably looking at close to 7.5". But then you have to account for the length of the watch from lug to lug, which is approximately 2". Again, all speculation. Would be nice to have some real numbers.
  • That's interesting. Could you measure the overall length with the strap on the watch?

My wrist is ~6.25" and with both my F3 and FR235 the strap goes almost back up to the watch after passing through the buckle so I can't imagine they would make the strap that much shorter on the 5s.

    I think they did, though.

I can't imagine how DC Rainmaker's brother even got the thing buckled. Did you see that picture of him wearing it on his big wrists?

It is fitting my 6.5 wrists, but not with much wiggle room.

Well that's disappointing. Is it safe to say it won't fit on my 7" wrist?
  • DCR's brother must indeed have huge wrists because even the F5 looks small on him! On my 17cm wrist the F5 goes from side to side. I actually find the F5's bracelet to be almost too long though.

I would say it will fit you, but again, no wiggle room. I've got a measly 4 spaces extra when mine is buckled. It will also depend on how you like your watches to fit. I'm betting the aftermarket folks will make us some bands that are a little larger very soon.

some have already put on / ordered aftermarket 20mm bands that are rubber, leather etc. and longer but of course no QuickFit. But they will work.

Correct yes, you can still change bands the same way as with other Garmin watches like the fenix 3 and forerunner 230,235,630,735. Sometimes the hole in the bands are too small for the thicker f5 bar, but for rubber or silicone bands I just use dishwashing soap to ease the bar through.

    Mine is 7.09" (18cm)
