Anybody else having trouble getting a solid USB connection with this new cable? I plug it in and it charges, but it keeps connecting and disconnecting from my computer. It seems there is some sort of bad data connection and I have to be VERY delicate to keep it attached. Anybody else having a problem?
I've experienced the same issue. I plug it in and it does not "see" the device, although I've selected "mass UBS" and it's charging. Ultimately it has "found" it, but only after unplugging, restarting computer, device, Garmin connect and Garmin Express. I run it on a MacBook air on MacOS Sierra.
I've had a new 5X for 2 weeks now and USB connection to MacBook Pro OS Sierra is at best hit or miss. It's come to the point that I am returning it. It connects well enough to charge and sometimes the Mac's system report under USB connections shows that it's present. However, Mac Finder just about never sees it. I was on the phone with the folks at Garmin for quite a while and we had no success in getting it to connect either. We did all of the usual trouble shooting such as rebooting the computer and resetting the watch to factory conditions. Interestingly enough I have both a Garmin Epix and Fenix 3 HR both of which connect reliably to the same computer. BTW, I really do like the 5X and am disappointed in having to return it.
Hello - were you on a Mac or PC - I tried both and cannot connect - on the Windows -I could see the Fenix5x directory - but Garmin Express could not "find" it - on the MAC "some" directory showed up but was not accessible - in both cases the watch was receiving a charge....
Hate to return this! Ugh.... just cam in today - was very pysched up for this device
any suggestions...
p.s. I even tried a USB 2.0 HUB connected to my MAC Book Pro 3.0 USP port - no help
thanks
I had that problem when it was plugged into a USB 3.0 port. When I plugged into a 2.0 port the connection was fine
I had to return the first F5X I purchased (which, I discovered when I got it home had already been returned, as it was registered to another Garmin account).
It had great difficulty syncing. When I finally got it to sync (wiggling the cable), I found it had been registered to another Garmin account. When I called the store, they advised they had a returned unit, but the purchaser had bought it back within 24 hours because they wanted a smaller watch. I suspect they returned it due this issue.
