Training Effect 2.0 vs Training Effect 1.0 - Inconsistent ?

I first started getting TE data with my FR610 which I took with a "grain of salt" but it seemed broadly consistent with the perceived effort. The same can be said for the TE given by the FR235 (even with the oHR) and when I got it I'd checked that it was always very close to the FR610. Now that I've been using the F5 for a week I'm finding TE data to be rather "inconsistent".

I've noticed that the aerobic effect is always higher than on the FR235, by very little on very easy runs but then it ramps up as they get harder and today for a 16k session at Marathon Pace at 81% of MaxHR, I got a 5.0 vs 4.5 on the FR235. Sure it's a hard session but in no way is it worth a 5.0/Overreaching at that % of MaxHR.

Anyone else noticed these oddities ?

My TE from my last and only four runs so far is consistently above 3 (which I assume is a little bit high, maybe the F5 must get used to my training behaviour first). Above 3 was a demanding training in the past with my old watch. I usually had values like 2.3 or 2.6 of a 10k jog at 72%. Never had values above 4.

My second run was commented with "increase of lactate threshold" but I cannot find any value for the lactate threshold in the menu, widgets or protocols. Where can I find it?
  • Quite similar then, what was your previous watch, the F3 ?

Did you get an LTHR pop-up message or was that text under "Aerobic TE" ? Looking at my session from Tuesday I see a 4.5 Aerobic TE with a "Highly Improving Lactate Threshold" comment. Doesn't really make much sense as it was a tempo session alternating Anaerobic Threshold (Lactate Threshold) and Aerobic Threshold...

If you got a pop-up it would normally have updated the LTHR value under :
    \settings\User Profile\Heart Rate\LTHR or
    \settings\User Profile\Heart Rate\Sport Hearth\Running LTHR
    Mine are empty.
  • Always best to reserve judgement on the Firstbeat stuff for a couple of weeks of training.

If you have another device like a F3 or 735 etc etc, you could try resetting it to defaults, setup your "My Stats" same on both and compare them and see if evolve together.
  • DC Rainmakers review says it will take 4 weeks to learn you so give it some time before passing judgement

  • Yeah I saw that "guesstimate", fact is the F5 took about 3 runs to home in on the VO2Max of the FR235 so the rest, particularly Aerobic TE, shouldn't be off like this. We'll see if it becomes more "realistic". Looking forward to more user feedback.

Does the 735 also give a PC with the oHR? Maybe the mention of HRV when that feature appeared on the 630 was a way of "explaining" the lack of an oHR vs the cheaper FR235. Actually I remember that initially the 235 wasn't supposed to get VO2Max, only recovery.

Where to find it? I asked the same question. It's nowhere until you have one :)
Yesterday I ran a progressive pace for about 35minutes using chest strap HRM, it detected LTHR and LTpace. It's in performance widget, since then.

I'm assuming all your HR variables - HR zones, Max HR and LTHR are the same between both devices?

My F5 Training Effects metrics have been pretty spot on & much more accurate (based on my RPE) and consistent vs. my F3.
