Nope I was told by multiple dealers it will have US maps on it.

The spec pages all mention US maps only, regardless of the region you set for the website. That said, this forum thread seems to indicate that you can load other maps so the default map set should be moot.

    other maps

If the Canadian purchased Fenix 5x will only have US maps:
    1. Can the US maps be removed to free internal memory for other maps?
    2. Could marine navigation charts be installed on the Fenix 5?
    3. Interested in knowing whether "other maps" would have equivalent features to the maps which come with the watch?
    4. If installed maps could be removed, would the available internal memory be useful for apps or other uses?

I realize there are not a lot of 5x owners yet, but interested in the experience of new 5x owners regarding the above.

There is plenty of room to add other maps..

the thing I know is that you can download the canadian topo map and install it..

The ning i'm not sure about is if you can have multiple map at the same time..

Garmin team confirmed me that you can purchase or get a gamin compatible open map and use it on the 5X
  • You can have multiple maps at the same time. If they overlap, they are overlaid, or you can enable and disable maps at will in the map settings pages.
  • You can remove the preinstalled maps to have memory for other maps (but save them).
You can install free osm maps.
The manual says, that you can install garmin bluechart marine maps
You can install multiple maps, but don't enable two routeable maps for the same area, because this could crash the route calculation...

    It has them all!

    This was news to me..

I got my (US-purchased) 5X and connected to Garmin Express and it looks to have all the world regions of maps on it (North & South America 5.20, EMEA 4.8, Pacific 4.3). Now just need to figure out to what detail and what type of maps these actually are.

  • Aren't that only the world wide maps for golf?

It seems all 5X's have access to all maps. My Australian 5X has maps for all areas:

receiving mine today, also living in Canada wondering about the same thing. Are the worldwide maps posted above the same as Topo maps with contour lines? Very confused right now because I'm not sure if i should be opening the box with model 010-01733-00 US version.

Supposedly there's a Canadian version posted on GPScentral.ca with model number 010-01733-05. Did Garmin just recently updated the firmware with global maps (Topo 100k) included? can someone with the US version watch 010-01733-00 (bottom of the box) verify this?
