Fenix 5 v2.40 : No HR data from Polar H7 ?

So I decided to try to get HR data from my Polar H7 and sure enough it is recognized by the F5 (with a smart bluetooth background!) but then no HR data comes though. I checked that I could get HR data from the H7 on my smartphone so it appears to be working properly. Anyone else have that problem ?

UDPATED 25/03 :

Status of BT Heartrate Monitors :

1. BT Only devices :
- Polar H7 : connects but no HR data comes through
2. Dual ANT+/BT :
- Wahoo TICKR : connects over either ANT+ or BT (seen as Dual BT/ANT+ device by the F5), HR data comes through in both modes
- Cardiosport : connects over either ANT+ or BT (seen as Dual BT/ANT+ device by the F5), HR data comes through in both modes
- Viiiiva : connects only over ANT+ (not seen as as a Dual BT/ANT+ device by the F5), HR data comes through in ANT+
  • Any chance this is related to the poor sensor reception that I and others are experiencing? It may be that the Polar only outputs a weaker signal, and combined with the apparently weaker antenna on the f5, the signal just doesn't get through. When you start the activity, are you also then moving the f5 further away from the HRM than it was when you did get a connection? Also, having one in motion compared to the other (e.g. a swinging arm during running) will add an extra obstacle to good connectivity.

What happens if you start an activity with the HRM about 10cm away from the f5 and keep it there?
  • Hi

Have you contacted Garmin regarding these?
I hope this can be addressed by a s/w update, because if it is a limitation of the hardware....

  • Same problem but fixed it

    Hi all,

Just received my Fenix 5 today and had the same problem.

I fixed it by performing a factory reset on the H7 itself.

Remove the battery from the H7, wait 6 minutes and then using a paper clip you touch both battery terminals!

As a precaution I also removed All my polar Apps from my phone and removed any pairing.

Good luck and hope it works for everyone else.

  • If it's any help, my H10 that I just picked up worked wonderful with the 5x (i'm going to assume this applies to all the 5 models). I dare say it actually reports better and more consistent info over HRM-TRI (Just HR data doing HIIT Training).
  • Thanks for the H7 tip, unfortunately no change here, the second terminal to "short" is the one on the edge of the battery compartment ?
  • Just received my F5 silver/blue and checked my H7
It connected immediately and I also saw HR data being displayed
    So fa so good
I will go for a run tomorrow

jstpassaro, could I have one of your FIT files with HRV enabled in the watch and recorder with H10? I want to check how many spikes in HRV does it records if any - I am getting way too many with my HRM-Run and I do not like it... my email is serbanmeste at gmail dot com - thanks
  • H7 Strap connected and HR displayed with my Fenix 5 Sapphire. Will try a run tomorrow.
  • Went for a trail run today with the H7 connected
I did experience some disconnects during my 1:30 run as seen in the HR graph

I will be keeping an eye during the next sessions
