User Profile : "Heart Rate" vs "Sport Heart Rate" - Max HR setting ?

While setting up my F5 I noticed two settings for "Max. HR" : once under Settings > User Profile > Heart Rate as expected but also under "Sport Heart Rate" - details in the manual http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/fenix5x/EN-US/GUID-30C91919-943C-44E9-8048-901AC0881AEA.html

This sounds interesting as when you train a lot especially when preparing for a marathon it's very hard to hit your "Actual Max. HR" (say the one you'd get after doing a VO2Max test after being inactive for 6 months). However I found on my FR235 that I had to use my "Current Max.HR" (say all-out end of a 10k HR) HR to get a sensible VO2Max estimate. So does it mean that on the F5 I can set both these Max. HRs and get sensible VO2Max, TE, Training Load, etc... data ?

A search shows that similar settings are available on the 735 (F3's too ?) but I couldn't really find any detailed discussion about it. Thanks !

I'm not 100%, but I do know Garmin lets you set different HR zones for different sports (on the GC website you can set "running" HR zones and "sport" HR zones) so it's probably related to that.
  • Thanks I did indeed find the settings in GC under "Device Settings" https://connect.garmin.com/modern/devices

There I have "Running" and "Secondary", so what looks like the main setting under Settings > User Profile > Heart Rate is in fact the "Secondary" one here.

Unfortunately both Max HR values were the same so my setting on the F5 didn't "stick" and when I edit here and try to save well there is a red message that says : "We're sorry. We had a technical problem, and your changes did not save. Please try again." :-(

So it does seem that you can input your actual "Actual Max.HR" vs "Current Max.HR" to get sensible estimates, good news !
