Firmware release V2.40 found bugs to be squashed

Seems like there are a few bugs I have experience and seen here as well.

1. Vibration alert setting has its own life... EVERY time you sync - Vibration alarm setting is turned off.
2. EPO file reports expired in System/About menu. (EPO files helps GPS get fast lock) maybe only display issue - or maybe it really does not work
3. [Added 19/03] - huge issues with stairs - My 3HR counted more up than down. On the 5X it is the other way. My 3HR was reasonably right and about 1 set of stair climbs out in a day (so about 5-8%) where the 5X shows about 30-40% too few stairs climbed.
4. [Added 19/03] - Compass Crash when adding maps?
5. [Added 19/03] - Basecamp Export track crashes 5X so only full reset brings it back.

Any others?

Same issue here (but on a f5). It appears fine on base camp but on syncing to GC only the first half is recorded.

I emailed Garmin about this issue; they just want to educate me rather than accept the possibility there might be a bug.

I refer to your recent enquiry concerning the above.
If you have examples in regards to any queries with the GPS please send in some links from your Garmin Connect in order to allow us to investigate further.
If there is anything else I can help you with then please let me know.

    Hello,

    -link removed-

This one, the latter part of the walk is completely missing.

    -link removed-

This one, a line goes through a bunch of buildings, it’s completely inaccurate. Both faults happened after clicking “resume later” and resuming the activity.

I don’t believe there is a solution. Either my watch is faulty (unlikely) or it’s just a software bug (more likely.)

I refer to your recent enquiry concerning the above.

I would recommend changing the data recording t every second to ensure as accurate readings as possible. Please refer to the attached suer manual for these instructions [Page 24]

GPS drift is caused by many external factors and consumer grade GPS devices cannot account for these. GPS drift causes the device to appear to be moving on its own. It is most obvious when looking at a track or when zoomed in all the way while at a standstill.
Satellites send their signal through the atmosphere down to earth. The atmosphere distorts this signal, and other environmental factors (such as trees, hills, mountains, buildings, cars, reflective surfaces and more) can further degrade the signal.
In the past, a satellite signal weakened by the environment caused a loss of position. High sensitivity chips were created so that it was no longer a question of if you had a position lock, but how accurate that position lock would be.
Now only the weakest signal prevents the device from locating your general position, but as a result, the decrease in accuracy that is introduced by the environment causes GPS drift. In other words, the device is more sensitive than the environment allows it to be accurate.
Being mindful of the limitations of consumer GPS devices will help alleviate concerns regarding their accuracy.

In the first link it was already set to record every second and a GPS lock was engaged, but the latter part of the “walk” is simply non-existent.

In the other “walk” where it looks like there’s a GPS drop, the watch showed the GPS signal was fine, and again, it was set to record every second. If it was not recording every second, then that’s another bug with the watch because I’m quite emphatic about having it set to record every second.

My Garmin Fenix 3 Sapphire watch had absolutely no problem with the exact same route. Moreover, my Garmin Fenix 5x has no problem with the exact same route when “resume later” is not clicked.

It is a bug with the watch.
  • Two structured workout bugs:

    2. Heart-rate based alerts do not work during a workout downloaded from Garmin Connect. When I set up a workout step with a custom heart rate zone, say 60-140bpm, the step displays the limits for a short period of time but there is no alert when you go outside the zone.

Is fix with Beta 2.72. i did double checked
  • Lock up while paddle boarding

It locked up on me this morning while paddle boarding. Had the map screen on. Was paddling under a concrete bridge at that moment. Maybe loss of gps signal triggerd it? Had to long press power to restart it.

I also saw some screen flickering while changing screens in the app.

Yep, I can confirm that with 2.72 I'm getting heart rate alerts. I still don't have the pointer on the colored gauge when using the wrist-based HR though, how about you?
  • Hi,

I went to Settings - System - Units and selected Celsius for temperature, and it corrects the weather forecast widget, but the temperature widget (with graph of temperature last 4 hours) stays in Fahrenheit.

Am I missing a different setting somewhere? Is this a bug? Found on both stock firmware and beta 2.72.

Created a separate thread also: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?373078-Temperature-widget-in-metric
  • AHA!

It's GARMIN CONNECT! Under devices settings the vibration and tones settings are off by default so when you'r watch syncs its sets them off again!

Go into GC and turn them on and sync and it'll all be fine again!

Weird - so I got my 935 yesterday and the key vibe has been repeatedly turning itself back on after I've turned it off. Turns out it's a garmin connect setting - presumably every time I synced it was turning back on. Opposite problem to you. Fingers crossed it's fixed now.
