Firmware release V2.40 found bugs to be squashed

Seems like there are a few bugs I have experience and seen here as well.

1. Vibration alert setting has its own life... EVERY time you sync - Vibration alarm setting is turned off.
2. EPO file reports expired in System/About menu. (EPO files helps GPS get fast lock) maybe only display issue - or maybe it really does not work
3. [Added 19/03] - huge issues with stairs - My 3HR counted more up than down. On the 5X it is the other way. My 3HR was reasonably right and about 1 set of stair climbs out in a day (so about 5-8%) where the 5X shows about 30-40% too few stairs climbed.
4. [Added 19/03] - Compass Crash when adding maps?
5. [Added 19/03] - Basecamp Export track crashes 5X so only full reset brings it back.

Any others?
  • The auto lap thing is how the newer watches are. I prefer it that way but know from comments in forums for the other watches some don't like it at all.
  • Two structured workout bugs:

    1. Auto-lap is not disabled during a workout downloaded from Garmin Connect. It doesn't interfere with the workout like it does on the Epix, or like it did when this behavior happened during the fenix 3 beta program, but there's really no reason for it to be enabled at all, and it is not enabled on any other Garmin device.

    2. Heart-rate based alerts do not work during a workout downloaded from Garmin Connect. When I set up a workout step with a custom heart rate zone, say 60-140bpm, the step displays the limits for a short period of time but there is no alert when you go outside the zone.

@jburchm1 Top 2. i agree. i have the same issue.
I have reported the issue to Garmin Support Germany

With the Fenix 3 holding the "Down" would get you back to the watch face while you were in an activity but this doesn't seem to work any more. I think you can set the clock as a datafield.
  • Holding down works for me. Returns me to the clock and I go back by pressing back or start. This is a definable hot key; I am assume yo have not re-defined it to something else? Hold DOWN should be set to Widgets for this to work.

    cheers that sorted it.
  • More observations on structured workouts:

    1. When using an external heart rate strap, workout steps that have a heart rate target display a RED/GREEN/RED gauge showing your target range with an arrow that indicates where you are. The arrow does not appear when using the wrist-based HR (although the heart rate number is displayed).

    2. When in a workout step with a pace target, the pace displayed on the step screen is the average pace for the step, but the pace alerts are made based on the current lap pace. When auto-lap triggers within a step, the current lap pace is reset but the step pace is not (obviously). This results in pace alerts occurring based on a value that you can't see from the step screen.

@jburchm1: did you report your bugs to Garmin?
I have the same bug with the arrow.

Agree in #3, stairs. My Fenix 3 was pretty accurate. My 5x misses most of the stairs I do climb and often counts phantom stairs when I haven't climbed any.
  • Resting HR setting doesn't stick

When I set Resting HR in Settings->User Profile->Heart Rate then come back later it shows __. It doesn't matter if I enter a custom value or select Use Average.

I'm wondering if this is part of the reason my active calorie count is way too high.
