Firmware release V2.40 found bugs to be squashed

Seems like there are a few bugs I have experience and seen here as well.

1. Vibration alert setting has its own life... EVERY time you sync - Vibration alarm setting is turned off.
2. EPO file reports expired in System/About menu. (EPO files helps GPS get fast lock) maybe only display issue - or maybe it really does not work
3. [Added 19/03] - huge issues with stairs - My 3HR counted more up than down. On the 5X it is the other way. My 3HR was reasonably right and about 1 set of stair climbs out in a day (so about 5-8%) where the 5X shows about 30-40% too few stairs climbed.
4. [Added 19/03] - Compass Crash when adding maps?
5. [Added 19/03] - Basecamp Export track crashes 5X so only full reset brings it back.

Any others?
  • AHA!

It's GARMIN CONNECT! Under devices settings the vibration and tones settings are off by default so when you'r watch syncs its sets them off again!

Go into GC and turn them on and sync and it'll all be fine again!
  • For Key Tones and Alert Tones, but not Vibration. This is always disabled every time you sync irrespective of what you set it to in the app. Just hope they fix this quick.

To me it seems a bit silly that you can set anything in the watch if it's going to be reset whenever the app syncs which is very often. I had the same thing with the 12/24 hour setting too. It kept resetting to 12 hour until I realised I needed to set it in the app. I'd have expected the app to update from the watch if the setting in the watch is changed.
  • Right enough - "vibration" did go back off again. The other settings are OK!

    Intervals problem

If you set up the on watch intervals with a warm up.. when you press the lap button to go to the first interval you actually get the watch face.. you can't get the lap button to work.. I've mailed garmin.

The rest of the watch is brilliant.. I've even managed to find some free tops maps for the uk and loaded them up.. I thought the standard ones were good, not I get contours et al.. nice..

I did a small walk, then paused and clicked "resume later" then I resumed the activity but it's not showing the second half in my profile.
  • Freezes; ceases to function. I've only had it happen once, when I was adding maps.

    wannawander,

How were you adding maps and using the compass simultaneously? Can you explain in more detail? Did the device freeze or literally crash? A detailed description of your method to reproduce would be helpful. As described now we're not certain what you were specifically doing.

    Thanks,

    Swoody,

Is this 100% reproducible for you? What software version are you on? Is the watch face you mention the actual customized watch face on your device or the clock data page found default in the data page loop of a run activity type?

Are there any other details/adjustments you've not listed that might be helpful? Anyone else reproduce this?

  • Just had a strange one.

At lunch time I was playing about with the golf app. I selected the app, waited for GPS, selected a local course. I said I did not want to create a score card but I just paged up and down through the different holes before I quit. Everything seemed ok.

But, I just connected the watch to my PC and got a sync error reported from express. Opening up express it tried to sync again and shows me an error:

Some files could not be uploaded to Garmin Connect.

    Garmin\Scorecards\73MC3401.fit (Invalid File)

I guess this is a score card of some kind, but given I chose not to have one, I'm not sure why this got created.

The other difficulty I had to fix this is that this is a hidden file so I could not initially see it in the Scorecards directory to delete. I have saved a copy of the file in case someone at Garmin would like to take a look. It is 149 bytes long and appears to have been created when the watch was connected to the PC rather than when I started the golf app earlier in the day. Here is a hex dump of the file:

After manually deleting, everything is fine again.

Something similar happened to me on my fenix 3. Check if the lap button is set to "on" in the app settings, otherwise you can't trigger the next step in a workout.

Sorry, my post was a bit misleading. I had previously been adding/deleting maps using the Garmin software on a Windows 10 PC. That's all I remembered doing which could have triggered the fault. I then disconnected from the computer, continued to use the watch as normal and looked at the "map" app, I noticed it wasn't rotating. I then exited it and looked at the compass, and the compass wasn't doing anything. I restarted the watch and it was fine. If there's an error log file or something, I can upload it and send it to you.

Incidentally, when I now add one of the maps I had previously added and deleted, "OpenTopoMap-Great-britain", Garmin Mapinstall says it cannot add the map to the watch, but other maps do install correctly.
