Pardon the double posting, but hoping to get a broader response:
How does the new fenix 5 wrist heart rate sensor compare with the fenix 3hr? Improved performance or the same?
I would have worn the F3 on the right wrist to avoid making it harder than it already is for the F5's oHR ;-)
Your results sound pretty typical, the problem with the oHR is that its performance varies a lot from run to run, be it easy runs or interval sessions, depends on the temperature (when it's cold it's generally terrible), etc...so it can get very frustrating. Bottom line is that if you want reliable HR data you need to use an chest strap. The oHR is still handy to monitor your average HR at night.
What do you mean by enabling HRV ? Are you referring to the "Performance Condition" metric ? Normally this would use HRV but since no oHR on the market today can determine proper HRV Garmin are probably defaulting to a simple PACE/HR ratio when not using a chest strap...and hopefully using actual HRV data from the chest strap when it's used!
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that setting...and nor was the manual ;-)
