How to activate backlight when turning the wrist in Fenix 5

Hi there,

I just bought a Fenix 5 this afternoon and took it for a run. However, the backlight did not turn on when I turned the wrist so I have to keep on pressing the top left (Light) button whenever I want to see the readings on the watch. This is very troublesome

I did Settings, System, Backlight, and set Gesture = ON but still didn't work.

Any ideas and tip ?

Train the gesture, i had to learn it on F3 to use it

The Fenix 5 has separate settings for backlight in Watch Mode and During Activity; which is freaking cool as this was something I filed as an idea suggestion numerous times on the Fenix 3. It sounds like you've set up gesture in Settings>System>Backlight>Watch Mode so now you need to do it in Settings>System>Backlight>During Activity.

I think I read somewhere you have to tell it which wrist you wear it on somewhere as well

Can't find the info in the manual. Is there an option to have it always on in an activity, i.e. it stays on after you push the button and until you press it again ? Thanks !

Yes. Settings>System>Backlight>During Activity>Timeout>No Timeout. It then stays on unless you press the light button to turn it off. Not sure if Gesture is on and lowering your wrist might turn it off though; more testing needed....

My F5 has arrived so I'm revisiting this but I'm not seeing a "during activity" setting ? Maybe because it's still on v2.00 as it didn't update to v2.40 as others have reported. I'm connected via GCM, maybe a GE connection is required ?

EDIT - ok updated via GE and now have the "during activity" setting.

What I have in Fenix 5 is exactly this:

Settings > System > Backlight

Key = ON
Alerts = ON
Gesture = ON
Timeout = 30 seconds
Brightness = 80%

Changing the Timeout = "No Timeout in Activity" instead of 30 seconds makes no difference in my case ... my watch still doesn't turn on the backlight when i turned my wrist.

Any ideas where I could have set the backlight to off like in DO NOT DISTURB or something like that ?

What setting do you have for settings: user profile: wrist? And is it correct?
