GPS Accuracy

So it begins.

I will have mine Fenix 5 on Saturday and will start doing comparisons to an Ambit 3 Peak. I don't have an F3 to directly compare to as of now.

Anyone have an F3 and F5 to compare?
  • Any chance that your Stryd is connecting with bluetooth instead of ANT? When I 1st paired my F5 and Tacx, it wanted to use Bluetooth. Try removing the Stryd and Stryd app from your Connect IQ and your sensor pool and re-adding them.

    GPS tracks are looking good. Once the Stryd issues are worked out, I'm going to switch to pace AND distance from the unit. GPS is great, but if there's a more accurate way then why depend on GPS for this?

    Good thought, but I checked it and it is connected using Ant+.

    Agree with you, once this is sorted out I will definitely use for Instant Pace (have been doing that a while anyway on the 735) and might even use it for distance.
  • Wow you Stryd data with the Fenix 5 is a mess I sent you my data in a PM one thing I didn't put in there was I have mine set to speed=always and distance=indoors
  • Fenix 5X vs FR935 round two

    Second comparison between my Fenix 5X and FR935- both watches were set to every second recording, GPS+GLONASS and worn on my left arm;
    This is my usual Tuesday morning run in Greenwich park.

    Fenix 5X setup- HRM-Run+Stryd, watch calibrated to an altitude of 10m at the start;
    FR935 setup- optical HR only, watch calibrated to an altitude of 10m at the start;

    Note: altitude data was excellent; the optical HR sensor tracked extremely well with both Max HR and average HR having the exact same values; as a result the calories expended have the same value!

  • Second comparison between my Fenix 5X and FR935-

    All looks good on both watches to me :D. Very slight wobbles and variations in each track, but certainly within the 3-5 metre consumer grade GPS accuracy limit oft quoted.
  • Only the Speed is more wobling on the Fenix then on the FR is
  • What's the source for the pace, GPS or Stryd?
  • FR935 is the clear winner for me, way cleaner and more stable track... But must say the F5 is pretty decent as well, just not as good as the FR935.

    So yeah, for me it's the choice of looks vs precision (and looks is winning atm).

    Thanks. Didn't realize you had a 5X, the 5X doesn't seem to have the same issue as the 5.

    As an aside why are you guys with 5X fenix watches posting in the 5/5s forum? Just muddying the water a bit on performance of the 5/5s.

    Meh, not sure about that... I assume the chip is the same and also the casing is similar (I feel like the casing is the main reason the Fenix 5 series is performing less stable, the metal blocks more of the signal or something) so it does kinda help.
  • Can't say about that as it is conjecture. There is a separate 5x forum though.
