Display Size 5 and 5X...

Didn't know this about the display sizes...

I have the 5 on pre-order but thought that the 5X was bigger as well on the display size.

i was doing some quick research and found that just the 5X housing is bigger but the screen is the same size between the 5 and 5X.

If correct, makes me even happier as i really didn't want the bulk of the 5X and liked the size of the overall watch better on the 5.

Display sizes.
5X - 1.2" (240x240)
5 - 1.2" (240x240)
5S - 1.1" (218x218)

overall watch sizes:
5X - 51mm
5 - 47mm
5s - 42MM

  • The thickness is a lot more manageable on the 5 too, will have to see it in person but it does seem to hit the sweet spot unless you absolutely need the 5X's maps.

    Thickness :
    F3HR : 17,5mm
    F5s : 14,5mm
    F5 : 15,2mm
    F5x : 17,1mm

As someone who has held fhr 3 5 and 5s in Barcelona marathon for size comparison
I think 5 is the best suit for most people

I think personally maps Will be best on phone and wifi for a watch is useless when there is Bluetooth
  • Thanks for the feedback. Did you find the 5s too "small" or maybe with strange proportions (too thick for its diameter) compared to the 5?

Were they selling them or were they just demoing them?

No they werent selling them, although I was joking about running away with it :D

5s was not too small...as well not thick/heavy

    but let me also say,
5 is not too big compared to 5s or 3 and weight of 5 was very proportional ... (i had one with sport band not sapphire )
I felt the screen was better in my mind with 240/240 resolution but little bit smaller size at 47cms could be just my tired eyes

my suggestion - first wear in ur wrist and check how it feels, my opinion about 5 changed significantly after touch and feel
  • Thanks, I'd definitely try one on first. I've already tried an F1/F2/F3 on and it's a clear "no", way too big, so that leaves the 5 which looks fine and should be pretty close to an FR235 albeit thicker and heavier. So what's the next marathon where we can see one ? Paris I suppose ;-)

Yes possible but that's in April
I hear that it's getting out end of March so probably soon at a shop near u :)
But if u have marathons in March around which are IAAF gold or silver labels I am sure Garmin will have a spot there.
