Scratching the bezel

While waiting on my pre-ordered sapphire black/black 5 I have time to of course over analyze. I have a tempered glass protector on my 235 that fits PERFECT (basically no way to even know it's there) and protects the screen well. So even though I bought the sapphire I'm also worried about scratching the black bezel. Wondering if I switched to the silver/blue if the silver is more of the natural bezel color therefore it would not show any scratches as easy? Then I would again just do a tempered glass protector for the screen. I hate the film ones but nice fitting tempered glass doesn't bug me at all. Don't really care about wifi as 99% of the time I have my phone and sync can go through that. Any thoughts?
  • I've ordered the silver blue. Mainly because I think it will pair better with the leather band for everyday use. The lack of sapphire doesn't worry me as I'll be putting a screen protector on the glass. I hadn't really thought about bezel scratches so I'm interested how people think the two versions will compare.
  • In my opinion scratches are less noticeable on a silver bezel since there is no color to be knocked off. I have it on my F3 and will get the same when I eventually go to the F5S.
  • I too think that a silver bezel shows scratches less than a coated/painted black/grey one (often seen on the F3).

For me the trade-off is F5S with silver bezel + non-sapphire may show scratches on the glass, whereas the black bezel + sapphire may show them on the bezel.

Perfect combination for me would be the best of both worlds: silver bezel + sapphire. This combo would also fit much better to a brown leather band which I would like put on when I use it as every day watch. Unfortunately, neither silver bezel + sapphire, nor a brown leather band (with quick strap for F5S) exist so far :( At a certain point after release I won't be willing to wait any longer and probably get the silver/non sapphire with a screen protector and a third party leather band :p Let's hope they will soon offer more options.

I've been very happy tempered glass protector in my phone. Easy to put on and it really works. So, is it same with these watches? I ordered Fenix 5 without sapphire. You put 500-600€ these sportwatches and they get scratches?
  • I think I read somewhere, maybe DCR blog or in the comments section of his blog, where it was said that Garmin is using a different DLC coating on the fenix 5. Time will tell how that holds up -v- the 3HR though.. If it's well coated and thick then that should prevent scratches from showing on the black or gray..

I have a tempered glass protector on my 235 and it's perfect. I'd challenge anyone without holding the watch and a close examination to know it was there. It fits so well i'd argue that unless someone knew the watch I could give it to them and they would not be able to tell it was on it. That's because the screen is slightly recessed without and it ever so slightly sticks up with it. If you were unfamiliar with the watch you wouldn't know that. WAY better than phones. I have one on my iPhone but they stick up and whatnot so it's very noticeable that it's there. The film ones I hate.
  • On of my hesitations to buy Fenix 5X is its black bezel color. I don't want such an expensive watch to easily get scratched and show its scratches. Instead I would prefer a silver like bezel even without saphire glass...

Where did you buy it? Link?
    Thanks!
  • I have this one on my FR235. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HCOBT7O/ref=twister_B01EJ6QIU6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I originally had the Boxwave (I think), but it broke after a while and I didn't want to spend another $20 USD to replace it. The cheaper one has been perfect.
