Finally - they have also released the translated manual for a number of languages. This is obviously a precondition for formal release.

Sadly I do notice that the specs section for the 5X makes it clear that the Ultra-trac mode provides up to 50 hours. I am sure it was higher when first announced so perhaps they have given up on chasing down a software issue responsible for the reduction.

I wish they would just release the thing now and continue to iterate the software.

Based on the manual, it says one should download maps from Garmin website, going there I see only UK detailed map and nothing else. Are you guys seeing this as well?

I wonder why should I buy 5X if there are no maps at all... for example for my country Romania could not find a thing.

Or could I bring maps outside Garmin world?

    Maps according to DC Rainmaker:
5X Only – Mapping: Includes Topo maps in package, can add your own maps if you want

But as far as I can see the manual doesn´t describe very well what map(s) are pre-installed on the device or what areas/regions are covered. The Garmin routable topo-maps in the web store are quite expensive....

You are right, was my misunderstanding of using the garmin website, there is Romania at medium level though.

I'm using these free maps on my old "Garmin Oregon", I hope they work as well on the 5X. Does anybody know?

    Maps on 5X

My Epix was preloaded with a recreational topo map of Europe, and I'm also using a free map from Openstreetmap.nl/ on it for more detail. I hope that installing free maps on the 5X will work in the same way as the Epix.

A nice bonus feature i spotted in the Manual - the watch will accept Garmin Bluechart maps - so for those of us who sail - you can actually get the marine charts onto the watch! :D
