Fenix 5 not wear it and use as bike computer?

Can I use the Fenix 5 and put it at the back of my saddle bag on my bicycle?

I want to get rid of my Edge 520. (The reason being is now I can now track my bicycle, run, walk execise and vacation tracking.)

The Fenix 5 will be fed with Cadence and PRM sensor and my chest strap HRM.

You might be able to use the Fenix 3 quick release kit with the Fenix 5, depends on how different the dimensions of the watch are. If you can use it you would have a quarter turn mount right on the watch.

... And not be able to use it on your wrist ... Don't think that's even a possibility.

The quick release kit comes with a wrist band as well that the quarter turn locks into. If it would fit the F5 the only thing that wouldn't work would be the optical HR and it's not that much of a pain to change it out for a normal band when needed. The best option would be if Garmin releases a QR kit for the F5 that uses the new band fasteners so that it could be changed out without having to remove the bars.
  • More likely the current F3 quick release would fit the 5X, not the 5, given the dimensions I have seen and the fact that Garmin mentioned the 5X bands could be used on the F3.
  • I use both my Fenix 3 and Edge 1000 when biking. The Fenix 3 uploads all my activities and the Edge is there for back up, bigger display, and Varia radar/vision. It sounds like the original poster wants to use the Fenix 5 just as a recording device and in that case it will work perfectly. However if you want to use the watch for guidance, (ie navigation, making changes based on your HR, Power, Speed) the size of the display is small and harder to use then and Edge device.

An alternative would be to use the Fenix 5 and Varia vision.

Yep. I would recommend he keep his Edge, record on the Fenix 5 in his bag and use the Edge as a screen while riding. If his goal was to SELL his Edge and save some money then he should mount the Fenix on a bar watch mount.

Canyon - so all I have to do is disconnect my Garmin from my Garmin Connect account and be sure to record on both devices (Fenix 5 is my watch) while riding? I like the idea of the BT connectivity and everything recording on Fenix for Training Load. Will I still be able to upload routes from RWGPS or is that tied to Garmin Connect? At the moment, I just run both and delete the event recorded on Edge 1000.
