Fenix 5 in hands!

Went to my sport shop in town, and while driving there, got an email from them saying that the have a F5 in showroom. So, just to say a few things after having it in my hands.

- it is quicker (navigating in the menu etc), surely a faster processor
- screen more vivid, slightly better luminosity but only marginal I would say
- I have a F3, so F5 is and feels like a lady watch to me, so I would probably get the F5X

Overall I like it and looking fwd to get it (F5X) and take it outdoors :-)

Not sure how a local sports shop could have one, as they have not been released yet? Would they send out small batches of sample stock before the watch is officially released? Seems really strange! Not questioning your honesty, but wondering why they (Garmin) would do that? Surely you would not send out one watch to a limited number of shops, when the final product is not ready for release? I assume the watch they had was not for sale (display only)?

If they are releasing small volumes to select retailers, it does provide some hope they will be out soon. My VAHR died, so I am without a Garmin watch at the moment. I am therefore hopeful it arrives soon, but I am using my old Tomtom watch until then. Still, I am working on the theory we won't see the watches until late March. If you post some pics of the watch/packaging, you will give some hope to those waiting :p

I wish that my small Australian retailer could be the canary!

They have a small plastic support with some branding designed by and for Garmin for F5, so I expect this is available in other shops as well. Well, at least for once, Romania (where I live) proved to be ahead of the the rest of the World :-)

    here is the proof

Is it a confirmed info? Are they starting to ship the units out next week as well?
  • This reminds me how the Fenix Chronos was shipping end of last year. There were *very* limited watches on sale in different parts of the world (some retailers in Germany got one or two I *know* of, plus reliable news on Twitter from buyers in countries like Pakistan, Australia etc.).

However, they sold out really fast. The Fenix Chronos then became regularly avaiable a couple of weeks later (must have been 4 to 6 weeks, I guess).

    Cheers
    Peter
  • Perhaps a beta tester returned an unit. It's probably for display only. I doubt garmin will dispatch display units before pre orders.
  • I am still surprised you cannot pre order them on Garmin.com yet.
