F5x weight increase noticeable?

Have been wearing a Fenix 3 (non-HR) for two years now as my daily wear watch. I love the size and don't even notice the weight of the watch. I run daily and don't even think about the watch on my arm anymore. I like the "big look" of the F3 and the wide 26mm strap... So from this standpoint the physical size of the F5x doesn't concern me at all (only 1.5mm thicker - no big deal).

According to all reviews and specs per Garmin, the F5x (w/ silicone band) is 16grams heavier than F3 and 12g heavier than F3HR. I know that its not in the wild yet, and my question is speculative as only those at CES had a chance to try it on, but I wonder if this size increase is noticeable? Wondering if it might begin to approach a weight that starts to really push the limit of comfort for an active but also daily wearing watch?
  • I plan to cut out a round piece of material of 1,5 mm thick of about the right weight and tape that on my F3 and wear that for a while. Apart from not being able to tell the time.. it should give an idea.
  • Ran 13 miles with two US quarters (11.2g) taped to my Fenix 3HR which brought the weight to 97.3g no noticeable difference during this run.

    Tape it onto the back of the watch and you'll still be able to use the watch ... and tell the time ;)
  • ;-) great idea! I'll stick the weight under the Fenix 2 - the F2 is thicker than the F3, like the F5X is higher, and the portion of the watch above the level of the strap is higher . I am not making any sense I'm afraid, but the "pin roller" image on DCR illustrates that nicely:https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/03/garmin-fenix3-detailed-review.html

    Awesome idea! I love it! I'm going to give it a try today (two nickels and a quarter = 15.7g to make up the 16g difference) and if I get the same "unnoticeable" result, then it'll be full steam ahead with the F5X...
  • The added weight does have me slightly concerned as the 3 HR is about as thick and heavy as I'd want BUT I am sure after a short period of time you will adjust and not even notice the difference.. What has me equally concerned is the added thickness of the 5X...

    I waffle back and forth. I do not mind the size and heft of the 3 HR but the 5X is thicker and heavier so I preordered the regular 5 sapphire. I am still considering the 5X for the maps and because I like the larger watches...

    According to DCR review the 3HR is thicker then the 5x. This could be due to the fact that the 3HR has the bump for the OHR but the 5x doesnt. He has a picture showing that the 3HR is really the thickest of all the fenix lineup. The 5x is next.
  • The 5X is thicker than the 3 HR.....

    5X = 17.5mm
    3HR = 16mm

    You can confirm these specs on Garmin's website...

    Direct from DCR's post:

    Fenix 5X: 2.0” x 2.0” x 0.7” (51.0 x 51.0 x 17.5 mm) – 98g
    Fenix 3 HR: 2.0” x 2.0” x 0.6” (51.5 x 51.5 x 16.0 mm) – 86g

    I was confused with his post as the photos do show the 5X being thinner than the 3HR but based on specs, I don't see how that is possible.. The HR bump can't possibly be 2 to 3mm less than the 3HR can it? Maybe it is..
  • With the bump out for the HR sensor they are almost identical a US quarter is 1.75mm thick.
