Has it shipped yet. Has it shipped yet. Has it shipped yet.

Just like an aggravating, but anxious kid.

I was happy with my 405, then the 410, then maybe 605, 610, F2, now F3. F3 works for the most part. Its crashed on me. Its locked up on me. But I still like it. It does much more than I need, but I can live with that. the 5x does even more than I need. But I dont know if I'd like maps or not. But I do like the idea of more memory and faster processor. That spells future proof usually. I might not like mapping. Ok. so I may not use it. I might not like the OHRM, though I hope it works. If not. So be it. I really really hope it wont lock up during my next 50miler, 100k or 100miler. That really blows. It blows that I cant charge it while its on my wrist. But eh... I can hold it while charging, or faster it to my pack. Ultras are hard, holding a while during recharge. Cake. I'm excited. I'm prepping my F3 for resale, hoping to reduce the chunk the F5x is setting me back. But my preorder is in.

Peace!

    What? No 201?

  • I wonder if the fact that the Fenix 5/5S manuals are online but NOT the Fenix 5X one suggests that the 5X might ship after the other two models.

Hopefully they are just doing quality control on the extra chapter dealing with mapping but perhaps they are waiting for the extra software features to be finalised.
  • As is the case with all new Garmin releases, the wait weighs heavily on my soul. I'm not sure how much more I can take. Any news from anyone?????

There was a post linking to a Canadian store saying the 5X would be available March 2, but that doesn't seem likely. Someone else had said REI gets at least 30 days advance listing and that hasn't happened yet. The fact that the manual isn't yet available tells me the 5X is still under last minute development and I would think the user manual would be out long before the watch itself.
  • T-Fitness in the Netherlands: Fenix 5 and 5s expected from Feb 9 2017 (seems a bit optimistic?), but Fenix 5X week 14 (April 3-7). That's a long wait!

Edit: And then I'll wait for a couple of months to see how the firmware support is coming along, also hoping that a silver 5X with regular mineral glass will be released. I prefer silver and have plenty screen protectors left over.
  • Amazon.co.uk is not selling the 5x currently but is selling the 5/5s (release date 1 April).

Manuals for 5X still not released.

The only hope for earlier availability (based on placed pre-orders) of the 5X is that the initial shipping batch is small and that demand was high meaning that no-one has non allocated stock.

Yes April is a wait! But I guess if they need the time to get it right it's worth it. They may also be changing the charging cable on the 5x after the feedback on the one pictured originally. I too have screen protectors from my F3 which I guess is the same screen size as the 5X, so that's good.

I highly doubt that's the case. It is the same charger cable part number for the fenix 5, 5S and 5X (PART NUMBER: 010-12491-01).

I think it is highly unlikely they would redesign the charging cable for all models at this late date.

My thought was not that they would change the port on the watch itself. The issue for some (not me) was that the cable as presented in early photos connected at right angles to the watch base as opposed to the F3 which is relatively flat. I guess some end users wanted the ability to charge the watch when it was being worn. I think Garmin could make that modification not to the watch but to the charging cable. Just a thought which might contribute to the delay since the cables (hypothetically) would have to be changed before manufacture to include in the manual and the box.

Well ... it's already too late for the manual:
