U.K. Pricing

Ok so the pricing finally appeared and £770 for the 5X watch is kinda crazy but I can see what they're thinking. £45 for one watch strap though? Are Garmin on crack?! For a rubber watch strap. £45. Unbelievable.
  • 0,3£ for the rupper, 0,7£ for quick fit and the rest is profit...

    I totally agree, crazy...

    They keep telling us on the news to finally expect Brexit induced price rises in 2017..... a pint of milk will be £45 also by July apparently :D.

    But seriously, the official Garmin bands for the Fenix series have been gradually creeping up in their premium pricing over the last 2 years, so with the addition of a quick release mechanism this time it's to be expected. Only market forces will tell if this is priced too high to strike the right balance for Garmin between volume sold and profit per unit.
  • And where is the fabric wrist strap with quick fit to wear it over a jacket in winter...? Same thing with the great new charging cable for loading the f5 series on the go while wearing it on the wrist...

    Seems for me, that they have missed something...

    Ironically I prefer the old bolted in straps so far from being worth a premium I actually don't think I'd trust a £770 watch to a little plastic flap. Perhaps £5 is strap and £40 is insurance for lost watches...
  • pre-order from Amazon UK (with UK shipping)?

    It's $699.99 on Amazon US (pre-ordering). It's easy to have it shipped to Oregon (zero US sales tax), and then have it Fedex'd to the UK for $30.

    At today's exchange rate, it should cost around £600. Albeit with a risk that UK customs will randomly select the parcel for UK import duty.

    (or can just wait for next US business trip I suppose).

    I've using this period of 8-12 weeks waiting to look at starting my new collection of straps. Here's where I'm going so far:

    * Steveo Bell&Ross Military One (in black): http://www.steveostraps.com/straps-2/bell-ross
    * A black steel band
    * A red rubber band
    * A Black 3-ring Zulu band

    Anything I should consider?

  • It's £630 for a 5X in the variant that's $699 on Amazon; £770 also buys you the (seriously insanely expensive) metal strap. Most of the prices are in the UK press release, which is easier to follow than clicking through the F5 options on the website.

    I use the two original Fenix 3 silicon straps and three chinese colour versions bought from ebay at USD 2/piece - very happy with all of them... so am sure will see in the future something for Fenix 5 on the chinese market.

    Actually the ebay version rubber is a little more flexible and more comfortable than the original one :-) And if I am worried about durability... I can replace them once per year... they came with free transport costs and free duties...

    You will however have the US TOPO maps and NOT the European ones. This may or may not bother you.

    Thanks, I had totally misread that! No need for my shipping scheme now.
