I think it will be good to have one central place to have the latest news people here about the updated release date. DCR said it looks like early March. The garmin site says 5-8 weeks but thats the default time on all new products. Everywhere I read it says "By end of Q1" which is the end of March. Rei still doesnt have it listed yet either. Has anyone heard anything more specific?
I do not see anything different compared to the Fenix 3 launch. Only small shipments to some retailers by March-April and no widespread world wide release until early May 2015. Seems like this fenix 5 story unfolds the same...
Of course you are totally right and many close to Garmin say it is to make sure quality control / hardware issues that might creep up in early stages don't hurt them if a recall or fix would be needed on these expensive watches. That said it's a poor way of launching a premium product to some of your best customers willing to part with lots of money and often act as advocates for Garmin to others. Few companies launch so slowly like this on prestige products.
Ordered a 5 (silver / blue) in a shop in Switzerland today with estimated delivery on 27th March. For anyone in Switzerland, check out interdiscount (can't order online, though). As noted earlier in this thread, mine arrived on 3rd April. I wrote to the order management [EMAIL="[email protected]"][email protected][/EMAIL] a couple of times for updates on my order and they replied quickly. Maybe that helped?
