Release date thread

I think it will be good to have one central place to have the latest news people here about the updated release date. DCR said it looks like early March. The garmin site says 5-8 weeks but thats the default time on all new products. Everywhere I read it says "By end of Q1" which is the end of March. Rei still doesnt have it listed yet either. Has anyone heard anything more specific?

just cancelled my B&H order. I paid with a PayPal balance that I had, so I have to wait for the refund before I can reorder elsewhere :(
  • I'll say it again and again... the 5S is 42mm and has oversized lugs bringing its total length to 52mm. 42mm is classically a LARGE mens size and the standard large size for the Rolex GMT, Submariner etc. If you include the lugs the 5S is even larger than the Rolexs. The LARGE Apple Watch is 42mm long, 35mm wide and has NO lugs so it is tiny compared to the 5S and you see men wearing it everywhere.

The 47 mm F5 or 51 mm F5X are fantastic sports watches and they look great but their size will always put them out of the norm for men's watches and make it obvious you are wearing a smartwatch/sportswatch. That's more than ok if you like it, personal preference means everything, but I personally want a watch that when I wear it outside of my workouts looks like a classic men's watch and that is the 5S.

Why are Garmin marketing the 5S towards women? Because they know the 51mm F3 looked like a small tank on most womens arms and since they now have something smaller, even if still very large, it makes sense they try to encourage women to try the Fenix line again now that they have something more reasonable.

I completely agree with this .. the 5S is still a very big watch by normal watch standards.

My wrist measures 6.5" and I currently wear a 38mm Apple Watch Series 2 which I feel fits me great. I am still on the fence as to whether or not I am going to cancel my Black 5S Sapphire and just stick with AW2. The AW2 is a great day to day watch, and a adequate running watch, but it suffers from a lack of good running focused 3rd party apps.

After I read on this forum that the 5S with lugs measures 52mm, I am a lot less enthusiastic about it. I have never been a fan of big watches as I feel that tend to get in the way .. especially when they are your daily driver so to speak.

Picked up my Sapphire 5 Black/Black from REI yesterday (Ordered on the 17th). I have to say coming from the original Fenix 3 this feels like a feather on my wrist. Band is much more comfortable.

This is good to hear! I'm also going from the Fenix 3 and looking forward to the smaller size.

Aren't the weights of the 5 and 3HR nearly identical? Does the band just distribute the weight better?
  • From CleverTraining

    "Dear CleverTraining Customer,

Thank you for your continued interest for the pre-order of the Garmin Fenix 5. We are receiving regular shipments from Garmin and are steadily working through our pre-order queue. Between now until Friday, March 24th, we have 105 more units scheduled for delivery across all Fenix 5 models."
  • I saw there was one left on ebay on the 5. It say 7 sold. Sometimes you get the 10% back from ebay.

The 5x still got 7 left

    Just do a search.

I received my slate gray/black F5 today ordered from Amazon (I am in the U.S.). Coming from the Vivosmart HR+, I can say that I already absolutely love this watch. With my size wrist (medium/small) it fits great. I will still use my HR+ to track sleep, but the F5 is a winner already. I will test it out tomorrow, and see how the activities work.

I am actually coming from the orig 3 which I think is lighter than the 3hr and even the 5. Could be more in the distribution that makes the difference. It's extremely comfortable compared to the 3, which in looking at it I wouldn't think to notice a difference but after wearing the orig 3 since it was released (early adopter here) and then this for a couple days I am pleasantly surprised.
  • Typical REI fashion, you pre-order and wait. Then suddenly it pops up available online and you can buy today. You check on your pre-order and they tell you it's three weeks out. Or...I can just buy online right now. I don't understand why they even have pre-order. Strange.

Been a lurker for a while and finally made an account.

Well, finally got fenix 5 from Paragon Sports after everyone had a good experience from them. However, mine came obviously used. The plastic face adhesive was not present and the watch was already set up, not to mention there was some oil residue on the face and HR sensor. The charging cable was missing the plastic and was not neatly folded. Otherwise, the watch still looked good. These seem like trivial things, given it was only released a little over a week ago. Now I'm deciding if it's worth the hassle to pay for return shipping.
