Different versions of 5X?

It would be great to replace my Fenix 3 and Epix with one new Fenix 5X, but the price.. breath taking..
Would there be any chance of other variants of the 5X? I do not really want sapphire glass (use screen protectors anyway, always) and also prefer a silver bezel.

A major Garmin seller in Calgary emailed me that there would be a silver (titanium?) version of the 5x that was more expensive than the gray one. I didn't see anything about that in the announcements yesterday.

Even *more* expensive! Oh well, in that case I'll settle for gray sapphire... but still hoping for a regular non-sapphire version..

Knowing how the fenix 3HR is experiencing many more problems (particularly the Altimeter/Barometer anomolies) reported on these fora than the fenix 3 without OHRM, I would be all over a fenix 5X WITHOUT OHRM; but, unfortunately, that option does not exist.

I am perplexed why Garmin has chosen not to offer a model without OHRM :confused:

Regarding no version without OHRM... I think Garmin was fully expecting Suunto would put one as standard on the next Ambit 4 (that later turned out to be Spartan Ultra with touch screen but no OHRM). That was probably a big surprise for Garmin. And also it is standard with the Apple watch so Garmin thinks it is an essential in this price bracket in 2017.

If you can use a strap as well, then no reason to separate (unless of course there really is an issue with the altimeter on the F3HR caused by the OHR). There seems to be a push for OHR in some quarters hence the drive to have it on these watches.

A model without OHR would be my preference, I would switch the OHR sensor off anyway to conserve energy. I don't get a reliable HR from wrist based sensors (in no-brand activity trackers). Maybe if Garmin has a good OHR algorithm for dealing with lower than average resting heartrates it would work though. But I'd rather have a more affordable 5X without OHR.

I have a resting HR around 44 and the OHR on the 735 works fine.

That's an interesting point made about low heart rates. Everytime I've tried my partners Fitbit it always seems to register a heart rate that is double what it should be when my heart rate is low. Having said that I've only ever worn it for a short time trying it out. In contrast My Scosche Rhythm seems very accurate.
