Looking at the charging cable on the garmin web site, it doesn't look like this would easily charge on the go like the Fenix 3. Any more details on this?
in DC Rainmakers photos it shows the charging port in the back which seems a no-go for running. For cycling maybe with some modding you could do it but I guess that depends on your mount.
Here's a link to the online manual, showing how the cable connects. I can't see it working while you're running - it sticks out perpendicular to the back.
Wow. That seems like a bad idea. While I don't do anything that would require me to charge during an activity, this means it won't lay flat on the table while charging and put strain on both the cable and the connector on the watch.
There has to be away around this, hopefully.
I usually throw it in my pack when charging it while running....but I don't even see that being possible with this...
While I could deal with having the watch in a pocket to charge during an activity, this connector design makes me concerned that they may have eliminated the ability to charge during an activity altogether. Can someone from Garmin confirm that you can charge the 5/5S/5X while recording an activity?
Certainly seems like a challenge to connect and charge and keep it on the wrist while running. Not sure on the battery size on the 5x. The F3 charges relatively quickly with a usb battery. For an ultra if you have a pack, not sure why you could just put it in the pack or even just hold the watch (yeah not great, but doable). The key point however is to know if it will actually charge during an activity. Hopefully a garmin moderator can find someone in the know on this.
The major question here is - why screw up a perfectly fine charging clip? It only makes you wonder what ELSE has been "improved".
I cant argue to much with you on that, except to say it water under the bridge. its apparently done, and we just need to move on. we can hold out hope that maybe there could be a flat bar that would span the bottom of watch and have the connector in the middle. thus by loosening the watch you might still be able to charge and wear it.
