Can we read anything significant with the fact that there are two separate subforums for the new 5 series? The 5 and 5S share a subforum which would (maybe) indicate they share a code base. Would this mean that the 5X has a different firmware architecture other than just the addtional storage capacity to drive the mapping?
Could be, how much work would've it been to weld the Epix codebase into the Fenix and how different were they to start. But maybe (also?) it would be to keep a generic thread for the F5 series from being clogged with discussions about the mapping features.
The fenix 5, 5S and 5X all share the majority of their features but it was decided to give the fenix 5X its own subforum to allow for feature-specific discussions such as the mapping features as @R_Tellis mentioned.
It should work with no problem. In fact, ALL fenix 3 straps should work on the fenix 5X exactly as they did on the fenix 3. Both watches use a 26mm wide strap and have the same screwbar attachment.

I was bummed with the 3HR needed a new charge cable over the 3, but understood it. Now I'm wondering if the 3HR's charge cable will work with a 5X or if it's new yet again. Anyone know?
There's a thread on the 5/5S forum where someone has posted a link to the manual and it looks like it's more of a straight jack into the back of the watch. So it seems that it will be completely different than either of the F3 chargers.
