    Review Fenix 5

Oh this topic is so hot!
Fenix 5 is said to be available in the market in 5-8 weeks. I have made a review of Fenix 5 - its pros and cons and compare it with Fenix 3HR.

Having been a majorly disappointed early adopter of F3 there is no way I am going for this unless there is a clear reported increase in GPS performance. Having to use my old 410 for anything distance critical to this day taught me the lesson.

    Source?
  • This is what Garmin is saying on their site. "Estimated availability is 5 – 8 weeks."

  • I wonder if it will have 2.0+ CIQ?

Why would it not? I can't think of any reason that the new flagship watch wouldn't support the latest IQ version. The only, stated, reason that the F3 isn't getting IQ 2 is because of the processing power and the F5 series certainly has a stronger chip in it. I don't have time right now to look it up but I'm pretty sure that there was a passing mention of it in DCRaimkers hands on post.
  • As far as CIQ, a new version of the SDK came out yesterday (2.2.3), with the f5s, f5, and f5x as targets, and they are without a doubt, running Connect IQ version 2.x.x (like the Chronos), so more memory and more complex apps than on the f3 is possible.
  • Oh FFS, this is exactly the watch face I wanted from the start for the Fenix 3 (analog + baro + altitude + date). I guess it won't be available for the Fenix 3 ever :(

interested in the 5s, yay for a smaller version and i love the white/silver design- wondering why would i need or want wifi? isnt bluetooth and smartphone app enough to sync? and does sapphire have a real advantage for a mostly road running? thanks

    joesahfeen,

9 times out of 10 my sync occurs over bluetooth, but every now and then it takes too long, or fails outright. If I'm in my home I'll just trigger a wifi sync instead and that usually takes care of it. If I'm traveling then I'm basically out of luck until I can fix the bluetooth connection. Wifi on Garmin devices needs to be pre-configured to a known wifi access point through Garmin Express, so for some it has limited appeal since you can't just configure it for any wifi router on the device itself. If that ever changes then I think it might have more appeal.
  • One thing I am glad Garmin did was make the new quick release straps compatible with the Fenix 3. Might have to pick up some of those once they are available.

Are you sure about this? Do you have a reference?
That is one of my main reasons to upgrade from f3hr to f5.
