Garmin Fenix 5X Plus running extremely slow and not connecting.

Hello Fellow Garmin wearers (proper English?!?)

Approximately 3 weeks ago my Fenix 5X Plus began connecting and disconnecting from my iPhone very rapidly during a workout. I turned off Bluetooth and finished my workout. This is my first Garmin watch and have had it for 3 years. I have never had a significant issue with it.

When I tried to reconnect it to my phone a day later it would not connect. I tried soft resets and hard resets on my watch and phone several times to no avail. I removed it from Garmin Connect and tried reconnecting it with no results. I charged the watch and tried everything again but got no where. I bought new charging cables (as the old ones seemed to struggle to connect) and tried everything again. By this time my watch was running upwards of 12 hours behind and continued to run significantly slower than real time. I have tried connecting it to a computer but now it runs so slowly that when I turn it off and back on, it can take upwards of 30 minutes (or longer as I haven't actually timed it) to go from the blue triangle to the time and then NONE of the buttons do anything.

I LOVE my Garmin watch and will buy another however I would like to get this one running again if at all possible!

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Tim

  • You can try the unprompted reset described here: support.garmin.com/.../ (It is an article for the Fenix 6 but it should work in the same way. Sometimes it helps to do thar 3 or 4 times.

After that, connect it to a PC or Mac and sync it with Garmin Express. Then take the watch outside and start any GPS activity.for 15 minutes or so, then discard the activity.

Hope it helps. If not, you can always call Garmin Support and ask if they can help.
