GPS wrong - running.

Impossible for me to run 2.20/km All the time on the watch I see that the pace shows from 2.20 to ~3.30 !?. What's going on with this GPS? Auto lap after conversion gives the correct pace, e.g. 5.45 / km, but when running, the watch shows something else. I deleted the entire remoteSW directory, but that didn't help.

Check GPS, GPS GLONAS, GPS GALILEO. Everytime its the same..

  • Garmin watches use the combination of GPS data and the data from the internal accelerometer/gyro for estimating the pace and distance. The worse the GPS signal, the more the accelerometer is used. If not properly calibrated, it may indeed give very inaccurate results. Unfortunately, unlike with the pace/distance from an external sensor (like the HRM-Pro), you canot reset and restart the internal calibration through the watch settings, so the only way to try to fix it, is the master reset with deleting all data, and consequently trying to calibrate the watch by running a few kilometers under good GPS conditions (open space, as much as possible with no buildings, mountains, or dense vegetation around)

ok not giving up yet Slight smile

care to share a or the fit file from the first post so we can do a data dissection with help of FitFileRepairTool ?

  • did not help.. :(

Not sure what exactly you did, and what you expected. However, just to be sure there is no misunderstanding - resetting the watch will not fix any of your old activities. It can only help with future activities, but first of all you need to do a 5km run under good GPS conditions, to re-establish the calibration. Several runs may be needed to get a stable calibration, in some cases, in fact. Not sure you already did all of it since yesterday.
