19.10 seems to have reset or broke some things for me

I received the latest update today on my Garmin Fenix 5x Plus and have noticed a slew of minor inconveniences. After rebooting my watch I noticed it wasn't syncing to my phone and the watch face was using the default one that came with the watch. After going through the phone discovery/pairing process again and successfully re-connecting and syncing, I noticed all of my custom data screens that I had set for each activity were gone. So I had to re-create each one again.

The last issue that I just noticed after doing a workout is that my Heart Rate Zones are no longer working. It shows my HR fine but it now says "No Zone". I tried going into my Garmin Connect app on my phone to make sure that the HR Zones were not reset...and they look fine. I use the default zones for all activities, so nothing custom. I then went into the watch itself to check (Menu > Settings > Profile > Zones) and noticed every zone level was set to 100%-100%. I'm not sure why since the Connect app shows the correct values. In any case, I selected the "Reset Zones" option on the watch and it changed them all to the correct percent values. When I go to an activity now it still says "No Zone" but the arrow is pointing to the correct colored zone and displaying the correct HR. The only way that I've been able to get zones to work is to go into the connect app and set custom zones for each activity. This seems to work for Biking and Running but not for unlisted sports like walking or Kayaking..etc. It appears the latest update seems to ignore the default zones or something. I'm at a loss on how to fix this.

  • Try to downgrade to 18.00 and then update to 19.10 by connecting the fenix to the PC and garmin express

(I updated my watch by connecting it to the PC and it works better than before (faster).

  • I managed to get it working. After resetting the zones a few times on the watch it now works again. I'm not sure why that fixed it and making the changes in Garmin Connect did not. I'm a bit concerned about that. I guess I will have to experiment more.

Apparently after the update, it turned off or made adjustments to everything on my watch. The oxygen sensor was turned off for sleep. I decided to go through every sensor I use on the watch and make sure they were turned ON. Any that were on,  I toggled off and on. So far I think everything is working as intended again.
