Fenix 5X+ Sudden Battery Drain

A fully charges Fenix 5X+ watch, left unconnected on a table, completely drained overnight. It was not being worn. This random and sudden battery drain has been reported for years. on many different devices. Is GARMIN ever going to fix it? I have found religiously cleaning the charging connections can help

  • Is your backlight stuck on?

After updating to software version 18, my backlight on the 5X+ is often stuck on and kills the battery. I still do not have a fix

  • Only battery drains after a FW upgrade has been reporting for years, and here the solution is quite easy. Just turn off the device, wait 10 seconds before turning it on and the huge battery drain is gone.

You talk about a sudden battery drain without providing any kind of information than blaming Garmin, and that won't bring any solution to your problem.

So are you using a stock watchface? Did you prior to the battery drain have a bluetooth device connected to your watch, what firmware are you running on?

  • And you cannot turn it of by clicking the light button? Could it be that the button i stuck?

  • - backlight button is not stuck

    - when the backlight on bug has is not active, the backlight button works like normal: toggle on/off

    - backlight stuck on started happening after software upgrade. I did change the watch face around the same time. However, after reset, only the stock watch faces that come pre installed on the watch are there yet the backlight gets stuck on still

    - power cycling does work every now and then to deactivate the backlight. However, 10 seconds is too short a time to keep powered off. I have left the watch in power off for up to 5 minutes but that sometimes doesn't work. Powering off for up to 30 minutes seems to work. However the problem comes back very quickly

    - heart rate sensor turned off - problem persists

    - backlight settings - turned off backlight for both during activity and not during activity - problem persists

So yes, parentoft, I am blaming Garmin.

  • Most battery issues ARE solved by turning off/on the devices after a FW upgrade (or downgrade) but your problem dos not seem to be in this group.

I don't know where you purchased your watch, but you could go back tho that store/website and ask them for some help by returning the fenix to garmin.

But first you should try to call garmin support. Garmin is providing excellent service/support.
