Incident detection only sends emails no sms

Forerunner 945. Incidents detection/assistance alert seems to work but only  sends emails no sms. Partners Forerunner 245 work fine and sends sms. The only difference of note is iPhone vs Android. iPhone working. Phone number is good also used my own number and email. Again only email working?  Does the connect app support Android correctly?

  • From what I can remember from when I was experimenting with Incident Detection a couple of years ago the email ans SMS are sent from Garmin servers and not the device Garmin Connect Mobile is running on. All Garmin Connect Mobile did was forward the Incident Detection contact information to Garmin servers which sent the email and/or SMS. At that time this is the only way it could have worked because the device I was using was an LTE data only enabled Android tablet that had no native SMS or email capability.

Are the numbers for the SMS contacts in international format? That is (for UK mobile numbers) +44 7796 nnnnnn instead of the domestic 07796 nnnnnn.

  • Yes, thanks that's my understanding also. I'm using the international format...in my case IRE +353 87 nnnnnn. My partner has set up my mobile number exactly the same way on her iPhone and no issues. So it's pretty strange as I assume we're using the same Garmin connect servers? The connect app is definitely recording the alert and contacting the server since the email is sent ...just not the sms. Hmmm?

  • My partner has set up my mobile number exactly the same way on her iPhone and no issues.

Are you trying to send the SMS to yourself to be received on the same device that initiated the alert?

  • I've set up two numbers for testing..my partners phone and my own phone. Neither phone received an sms - but emails are send.

  • Suggest you contact Garmin Support. As SMS works when the alert originates from Garmin Connect Mobile for iOS but not from Garmin Connect Mobile for Android it would suggest there may be a problem with the Android version.
