Map track error (straight lines in track file) but distance normal.

Hi All,

Just curious if anyone else has had any activities where the resulting track on the map exhibits a section that is straight. Like as if the activity was paused, kept running for some distance and then un-paused? The distance for the activity is correct but the track file is not true to the actual path I've taken. I've attached a screenshot as an example.

I've submitted a support case with Garmin and have sent them links to the activities (there has been a few this year) and it seems completely random. It's clearly a tricky one as it has been many weeks and I have not gotten a response yet.

Not complaining by any means just curious if anyone else is seeing this?

I did see that with my 5 Plus a few times. My position on the map (on the watch's map screen) was updated correctly, but no track was shown, the distance was correct and the uploaded activity had a part with a straight line. I couldn't find a correlation with anything that might explain it. Hope it gets sorted for you.

I had this once in 2,5 years (almost 1000 activities) with my Fenix 5 plus around 2 years ago and within the missing part there was even a Garmin Segment which was correctly shown during the activity but was missing afterwards. I tried to reproduce it by running exactly the same course with the same settings and sensors a day later, but everything was fine. Never happened again, so I could not find out any reason and unfortunately I cannot give any advice.

Thanks. It's very random and has happened about 4-5 times this year.

I'm having the same problem since the 17.10 update and it's keeping the error with the 17.30. All my activities have error maps since the updates. Any opinions or advice what to do?

I would submit a support ticket. I still haven't had an answer yet.

Since it's right after start, and there seems to be some foilage there, my first thougth was that the GPS reception wasn't good enough. The watch lost your position for a while, then regained it later.

If that happens the result would be like this.

The bug is solved, did a hardware reset and the map lines doesn't have those errors anymore.

Not the case. The watch didn’t indicate any loss of gps speed pace and distance were all still functioning and the total distance at the end of the activity were right. I’ve got numerous other activities that have done the same thing with clear view of the sky and also mid activity. Pace, HR, elevation and other metrics all show a complete un-interrupted graph for the activities also. But yes, it looks like it’s loss of gps
