Amazon music & Wifi issues

I've been dealing with two issues concurrently. I've been trying to play some music on my Fenix 5x+ with amazon music. I played music on it a few months ago successfully and when i went to play the songs again yesterday, it told me I needed to sync it. I was outside so I tried to connect my watch to my phones hotspot. Even though I know I'm putting in the correct password, my watch will not connect to my phone's hotspot. I went inside the gym and connected successfully to their wifi. But amazon music would NOT sync, it just kept crashing my phone. I got home and connected my watch to my home wifi. I went to sleep with 54% battery life and started the sync with amazon music. I woke up with 17% battery life and no songs still. 

So... two things, can the watch not connect to a hotspot wifi? I thought I met all the requirements, the password is long enough and it says it's 2.4ghz and has WPA2 security on it. The second thing, what the heck is going on with amazon music? I looked in the IQ app and there are several reviews stating it's crashing their watch so I know it's not just me. I've tried uninstalling the app and trying to put the music back on from scratch but until i get home, i can't test it because it won't connect to my hotspot and i don't have access to another wifi.
