  • Btw still 14.00 is shown here (https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=14317) as last official, so I dont know in what status is 15.40 factually.

  • The gcd-parser project (Github link) has a utility 'get_updates' to check what the latest version is for Express. Use 3110 device type number for Fenix 5 Plus. If I check that, it also comes up as 14.00.

  • Funny emails with Garmin support.

    1st: me asking

    2nd: Garmin

    Thank you for contacting Garmin

Different locations would receive updates at different times, the "Rollout" would not affect world wide releases, it would be released to the US first for example, then uk, then around europe, an example of this would be where as your device may be 15.20 someone in asia may be running 15.00

    3rd: me again

Good argument, but in this special case even Garmin is ambigous, because on the Garmin forum it announced 15.40 as new offical version 11-12 days ago as I referred in my first email, while on Garmin support webpage it says that still 14.00 is the latest version see https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=14317

    >> But I dont want to spend more energy to convince anybody to clean up in his/her own house.

    4th: Garmin again

I'm afraid you will receive the update once it has been rolled out to yourself, we can't aim and force the update to yourself specifically.

  • If you're so desperate for it, just download the beta.  In previous cases it's always been the same as the release version, and in this case seems to be the same as well.

  • Already did a couple of days ago. I just dislike if a service provider is dis-ordered.

  • Not desperate for it. Probably been found to be buggy. They normally stop rollout when there are problems.

  • to me the update has arrived and for now don't seem to be any problems

  • I just dislike if a service provider is dis-ordered.

Why are you presuming that they are disordered, and not that there's a good reason why it wasn't rolling out to everyone?

I don't have any insight into how Garmin works, but having worked for similar companies I'd be fairly sure there's a dashboard/report that their people are looking at (at least) daily showing the number of devices running 15.40.  If something was wrong with the rollout then that number would be growing slower than they would have expected, so they would know and they would investigate it and fix it.

Thus it's logical to presume that if the roll-out is slower than you'd expect, it's almost certainly for a reason.  Perhaps they've found an issue and have paused the rollout while they investigate it?  Maybe we'll shortly find 15.50 is released.  Or maybe they'll decide the issue isn't real (or isn't new to 15.40) and continue the roll-out. Or maybe the issue is with the download servers and they are in the process of releasing a fix. Or any one of a number of other things that could have caused them to slow/pause the rollout.

Of course, that's just all made up - I have no idea what the issue might be.  But I'd be fairy sure that there is a reason for the slow roll-out, and it's not just that they are "dis-ordered".

  • Finally the 15.40 update has appeared for my watch.

  • Why are you presuming that they are disordered,”

Please read this part of my post again and think about it for a short while:

Good argument, but in this special case even Garmin is ambiguous, because on the Garmin forum it announced 15.40 as new offical version 11-12 days ago as I referred in my first email, while on Garmin support webpage it says that still 14.00 is the latest version see www8.garmin.com/.../download_details.jsp

It seems to be a mistake, doesnt it? Both statement cant be true, can they?

No problem, anybody can make mistakes. But if you highlight to Garmin that some of their official statements is incorrect and they do not modify it/them to make it/them correct, then Garmin is dis-ordered. Or does it seem to be as a proper way of handling things?

So simple, there is at least one of these two statements is incorrect, both 14.00 and 15.40 cannot be the last version at the same time. And the final answer of Garmin simply avoided to react to it, moreover no correction happened.

Btw theoretically both could be incorrect, but practically I dont think that a third version is the latest, although Garmin stated on its website 15.20 as the latest version for a couple of days back in mid-June. “Sad LOL”
