No new maps in Garmin Express

Hello,

I've recently received a refurbished 5 Plus. When I replaced my old watch in Garmin Express, it downloaded new firmware but shows no new maps. The watch is stuck at 2017.30. Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

My fēnix 5+ is still on 2020.20 with no updates showing. Suggest you contact Garmin Support.

They said I need to send it back. Hell no! I'd rather have 2017 maps than spend another two weeks without the watch :/ I only use them during hikes and doubt that those trails change that often ;)

There are plenty of free OSM based maps available. Also if in the UK/Ireland the free talkytoaster maps work very well on small screens (much better than the paid version IMO)

If you have not invested too much time and effort in personalising the watch, you could try a factory reset.

I understand there is a file on the watch which tells the Garmin servers what region it is from and therefore what updates it is entitled to. If this file is corrupt/damaged a factory reset may restore it.

There are many free maps available for Garmin devices based on OpenStreetMap. One that may be useful for hiking is OpenTopoMap at https://garmin.opentopomap.org/. Links to many more can be found at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_Map_On_Garmin/Download.

Thank you guys. I tried factory reset as the watch came back without my personalized apps, but to no avail (BTW shouldn't they backup everything and restore it before sending back?) I'm perfectly happy with those free OSM maps

Garmin has withdrawn availability of the TopoActive Europe maps from Garmin Express following the shambolic release of 2021.10 maps that were first wrongly identified internally and then wouldn't fit the 5 series watches at all.

Unfortunately I deleted the maps entirely from my 5X+ as there were some problems on my watch and now I cannot replace them at all. I can download new golf maps every day, but European maps have gone. I've exchanged messages with GARMIN - CHRIS and there is no timeframe for resolution. Garmin has screwed the pooch and are in no rush to fix their mistake.

The crazy thing is that the maps fit on the 5X+ so there was no earthly reason to pull them.

Thanks for the update. My guess is for it be be 'resolved' with the TopoActive 2021.20 maps when they are released towards the end of the year.

I have just created a new thread for this reason. So i'm in the same boat 2017.30 maps and i can't update it anymore...
