VO2 max in trail mode for Fenix 5 plus

Hello everybody,

Since last FW update (15.20), it seems the VO2 max is taking in account in trail mode, somebody can confirm?

Thanks in advance

Best regards

David

  • EDITED 11/15/2021:

VO2 Max was added into our Enduro, MARQ series, and Fenix 6 series watches for Trail Running and Ultra Running:

What Is VO2 Max Estimate and How Does It Work?

    • Are you sure Garmin - Chris?

The link you provided is in the FAQ of Fenix 5 plus, indeed, but it has a Note in which Fenix 5 plus is not mentioned at all:

NOTE: Support for Trail Run and Ultra Run VO2 max estimates was first made available on the Enduro. With up to date software, this will also be available on the Descent MK2 series, fenix 6 series, Forerunner 245 & 245 Music, Forerunner 745, Forerunner 945 & 945 LTE, MARQ collection, and tactix Delta series. Trail Run and Ultra Run VO2 max estimates can be disabled in the activity settings on the watch (refer to your owner's manual for instructions). “

Moreover it is not listed here

“Changes made from version 14.00 to 15.40:

    • Fix potential device crashes and freezes.
    • Fix bugs related to Explore syncing.
    • Fix issue with adding power data fields.”

Can you please double check it with your product team?

Finally maybe I am  just unlucky, but I never got any VO2 max change after havin a Trail Run activity, just after Run.

  • This thread conversation was for the Fenix 5 Plus series and not the Fenix 5 earlier generation series. I have moved the conversation to the proper Fenix 5 Plus thread. I apologize for any confusion. I should have moved the thread when I first responded to it.

  • Chris,

I am afraid you are still confused a bit. No offfence meant, but I just highlighted that although Fenix 6 (six) series is on the list of products which got a new Trail App algorithm including Vo2 max.

And I meant that on this list there is NOT Fenix 5 (five) plus families mentioned (nor the older Fenix 5 (five) families.)

So I was speaking about F6 vs F5+, and did not mention F5 at all.

So my original request is still valid for  double checking as regards Fenix 5 PLUS.

  • Hmmmm... I see what you are saying. I do not find any reference anywhere to the Trail Run APP providing VO2 Max for the Fenix 5 Plus series. It is only showing as an available feature in our MARQ series, Fenix 6 series, and Enduro watch for our Outdoor watches.

  • Bingo! :-)

    And although user ”498164”  thinks

”Since last FW update (15.20), it seems the VO2 max is taking in account in trail mode,”

I deem it is not the case, let me repeat “maybe I am  just unlucky, but I never got any VO2 max change after havin a Trail Run activity, just after Run.”

Hence the need for doublechecking with the relevant team.

By the way Fenix 5 plus family would deserve this development, it is the penultimate Fenix generation.

  • Thank you for bringing the misinformation to our attention.
