Is Spotify or music controls better?

Is it better to download Spotify to my watch, or just use the music controls widget that is already in the watch?  I have the Fenix 5 Plus and I've been thinking about downloading the Spotify app and I was wondering if it is useful or if it would be a waste of space on my watch.

  • Well, depends on how you intend to listen to music. If you always have your phone with you and listen to music with headphones connected to your phone, you can use your watch as a remote to control music playback on your phone. If you connect your watch to your PC through USB and upload mp3 files to your watch, you can listen to them with headphones connected to your watch, and control playback using the built-in music widget. But if you want to upload music from Spotify to your watch for offline listening through headphones connected to your watch (and no phone needed afterwards), you'll have to install the Spotify app on the watch (and the same applies to other third-party music providers).

  • Ok, that clears up a lot.  I have my phone with me just about everywhere I go, so I don't even need to bother getting spotify.  Thank you for helping with that. :)

  • Yes, from battery consumption point of view, listening to music through your phone is of course best. I personally don't carry my phone when I run, so I use the Spotify app a lot.
