GPS not working after a few days

Hello everyone!

I've been using my Fenix 5 Plus for a week with no problems but, after importing some gpx routes, suddenly the GPS stopped working. I tried rebooting and resetting everything but it didn't work. Finally, by removing all the maps and all the files in the Fenix and doing a complete reset I could make it work.

But then, after another week and installing Spotify, GPS stopped working again. I don't wanna have to do all this process every time this happens and above all, if I'm in the middle of the mountain.

I've tried everything I've seen here.

Current software version: 14.0

Any advice?

Thanks!!

It's hard to give advice without detailed information. Did you follow the steps here: Fenix 5 plus manual?

There is very helpful information in this forum post, about resetting, reinstalling, making backups, and what to do if you deleted the maps.

  • The steps shown on the manual are pretty much useless.

I've tried everything I've looked for and the only thing that apparently works is to remove all the files from the Fenix, maps included, and update it via Garmin Express. A really tedious process.

It's definitely abnormal to have to remove all the files and reinstall every week, so if it is only GPS reception that does not function (or only after a very long wait), it's possible the device storage is full and no GPS ephemeris (EPO) file can be stored anymore. Could be related to Spotify and storage use. If it works well without Spotify that might indicate a relation. I've never used music myself, so hopefully someone else here can help with that.

  • That makes a lot of sense. Today even removing and resetting everything I can't make the Fenix catch GPS again, I'm trying to see what determines this issue.

The other time happened when I imported three gpx routes and this one when downloading Spotify and music.

    Thanks!

One more thing; after you have reset, make sure the watch has synced so it has a new EPO.BIN. If that somehow does not work (the file does not show up on the watch's filesystem in RemoteSW or there is an old one there) you can download the file here, and put it in the RemoteSW directory.

Hope it starts to work for you again.

  • Thanks! I've tried removing all files, reinstalling firmware via WebUploader, resetting, syncing with Garmin Express and leaving the watch outside catching GPS AND IT DOESN'T WORK. It just keeps the GPS red bar at its lowest level. I don't want to think that it's watch fault because a week ago it worked.

I'm afraid you're going to have to contact Garmin Support at this point. Can't think of anything else you could try.
