Backlight comes on if watch is tapped or flicked.

I have had my fenix 5x plus for about 3 months and it has been fantastic but I've noticed my backlight doing some strange things.  Sometimes I notice it is on and to switch it off I have to press the backlight button and them the back button. I have set all backlight options to 5% and all gestures to off. Sometimes it seems to be working fine then while scrolling through the menu it becomes very bright again and I cannot turn it off. It can sometimes turn on if the watch is tapped with a finger or my wrist is flicked??

Any ideas?

  • I am sorry you are experiencing issues with your backlight. Given what you have described, ensure you have fully updated the software using Garmin Express on your computer. If fully updated, there is a chance either a soft reset, holding down your top left button until it shuts off then let go, or a full Factory Master Reset might resolve it. Unfortunately, you will likely need to contact Outdoor Product Support with the information seen on the bottom of the support center article to replace your watch. My gut instinct is your backlight is a hardware issue.

  • I have now tried all of the above and it is still doing it and getting worse. I think its a hardware issue too.

  • I am sorry for the bad luck. Please reach out to your our Garmin Outdoor Product Support and we will be happy to warranty replace your watch. The master reset article I included in my last message is for your region and has our Product Support contact options on the bottom.
