Fenix 5 screen died, bad screen

My Fenix 5 clock stopped at 120 AM last night.  I performed a soft reset 3 times but when it powered back up the screen has a black spot in the middle and with gray around the edge. It wants to respond to various buttons but due to the screen problem I cannot see anything on the screen.  I have a screen protector on it and see a faint crack but not on the outside screen protector.  It was not hit or damaged in any way except I was working on my table saw and router a couple of hours earlier.  It will synch with my Garmin Express app and it up to date.

That doesn't look good.. hope you have warranty? Even if no warranty, call Garmin to ask for advice. And just guessing here what it could be.. damage to the LCD itself (but how? late manifestation of a production defect?), screen connector partially dislodged (there's a bit of a line pattern visible) and another unlikely cause; if the battery has swollen up and is pressing the PCB to the back of the screen that would affect the display in a weird way. I've seen something like than in someone's Fenix 2. In that case you could replace the battery *very carefully!* and hopefully the screen and PCB are still OK.

  • I have sent you a Private Message to go over warranty options since I am located in the same region you are.

  • I have the same issue with my garmin, how was this fixed mate?

  • Garmin replaced the watch, I'm assuming it may have had something to do with the lithium battery. After my post the warranty dept contacted me with the resolution.  good luck with them mate.

  • I am sorry you have an issue. Your watch will need to be exchanged. Please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region for options.
