Data Field to Write Battery Usage to Activity's FIT File

Hi all,

I am looking for a CIQ data field to write battery usage during an activity to the activity's FIT file. I think there are multiple out there, just wanted to ask whether anybody has recommendations. I am a bit concerned whether my F5+ will make it through my projected Ironman time of approx. 10:45. I know there are multiple workarounds to easily stretch the battery time such as using UltraTrac or disabling GPS for the cycling part and relying on the Edge but this is a first and I'd love to get a nice clean track as a true Multisport event.

Once I am able to reliable (i.e. not me writing stuff down) track battery usage for activities I'll try experimenting with disabling features, map pages, custom data fields, etc.

  • I just use the widget and look at the widget before and after activity. Can't remember the name of the widget tho. (on watch it says "battery info")

  • I use BatteryUpDown to records battery level and usage. You have to add the data field to a screen to get it to record, but it works well.

  • I am using this, too. It is working great and you can see the battery consumption in gcm.

  • Did the last three runs with Battery Info Field which worked nicely (although I had to ditch Datarun Premium to get down to the two allowed CIQ fields) but the results aren't too pretty:

Following a structured workout with Stryd, LiveTrack and HRM TRI connected the watch uses about 12%/h. Disabling the phone connection brings this down to approx. 11.5%/h so not much. I guess I shouldn't expect to get more than 10h constant usage out of it which won't be enough for me for a full IM distance race (barely but still too close for comfort). Looks like I have to look into other battery saving techniques, record the bike segment with my Edge and somehow splice the data into a potential multi sport activity or use UltraTrac and live with a *** GPS track on the run.

I was hoping for something approaching 12h which would've been plenty but I don't think disabling e.g. the structured workout guidance will help a lot. My last hope is that the sub zero (°C) temperatures have a negative impact at the moment and that things will improve come spring.
