I've got watch coming next week and I'm sure I'll have to remove some links.  My question is - are the links held together by pins or screws?  Need to know what tools to buy for my own repair, thanks!

  • Pins. You can buy a tool, although most are not wide enough for the big Garmin straps. The best I've used was a pin in a vice and push the strap against it, but any controlled way of pushing against a pin will do fine. Make sure you push the pins in the right direction which is shown on the links which are removable. Pin goes in in the direction of the arrow and comes out the other way

Appreciate the reply.  Now that I know pins are used, I can purchase a $5 jeweler’s tool which will work, thanks!

  • Try to get an open ended one. The ones I found were plastic vice types which were only just wide enough to fit the strap. Because of this it’s impossible to see where the pin is and you end up scratching the strap
