Garmin Fenix 5 plus elevation gain

Garmin fenix 5 plus records elevation gain far lower than Strava on Samsung smartphones. Not sure about other phones.Can someone tell me how to setup this correctly, or is Garmin hardware/software not up to scratch? I use for cycling at the moment.

Why would you think that the problem is the device with a real altimeter and not the one that uses GPS to roughly estimate altitude?

Was not trying to say that it is either this or that device because I just don't know. If altimeter is better than using phone GPS, then great.

However, I put altimeter on continuous "during activity" and "not during activity" and realised that it did not change even a meter when I ascended 10 metres. I understand that maybe I got settings wrong, thus I asked the question.

You bought a device with a barometric altimeter, so it makes sense that you remember what you learned in school about ambient pressure and read the manual:
