Heart rate monitor

My heart rate monitor is not working properly. It worked fine for a couple of months. When I start an activity the monitor connects but during cardio it reads between 45 to 65. Sometimes it will stay on a rate for several min. I have restated the watch and replaced the battery on HR monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks

  • Is this a strap? If so which one? How long have you had it? Have you followed the recommendation did cleaning instructions?

  • It’s the Garmin HRM Dual Heart Rate monitor. I have had it for 10 months. I previously used it with my Vivoactive 3 watch with no issues. I regularly clean it as per the instructions

  • The straps do wear and can lose their conductivity. Fortunately you can buy replacement straps without the sensors very cheaply for the dual.

How much water do you put on the strap before use? If you are in the northern hemisphere it's quite possible that the cold is reducing the amount of sweat. I always (any time of the year) throughly soak my straps in warm water before putting them on.

  • Thanks for the advice. It’s weird it would just happening. I previously had another one for two and half years with no problem. I will try soaking the strap in warm water before I use it

  • Also slightly licking the contacts after wetting helps them to get proper electrical contact with skin. I have to do that during these cold months with dry air.
