Fenix stop record GPS data during activity

In my last 2 running activities my Fenix 5X stopped recording GPS data for about 2km, but all other data was recorded correctly (pace, distance, speed etc.). In fact the final distance and the average pace are correct.
By analyzing the fit file at https://www.fitfileviewer.com/ and looking at the recorded data, I can see that all data is recorded correctly and only the latitude and longitude data is missing for about 2km.

It had only happened once in the past, about 1 month ago. But now it seems like a recurring problem as it happened both yesterday and today.

The Fenix is practically new because it was replaced under warranty with a new one at the beginning of September.

  • You are using a 3rd party app (Dozen run). Any idea that it might be an issue of this app? Anything else which was not originally on the watch?

  • I had two 3rd party app installed, used during running. I've unistalled only one (not Dozen Run). Today same problem.

Tomorrow I will try again uninstall also Dozen Run.

    • Recently, my GPS doesn’t track my run correctly. I’ve had my Fenix 5+ for a few years with hardly any issues. This has happened 3 times this month. Could it be due to the latest firmware 13.00?
  • Since I installed 13.0 on my Fenix 5+ I have tracked 64 runs, 3 hikes, 6 bike rides and 23 strengh trainings without any issues, so I don't think there is a major problem with that firmware.

Was it just a single run? What do you mean with correctly? A single incorrect tracking can always happen as many factors, especially electromagnetic radiation can disturb GPS reception.

  • After Uninstalling Dozen Run app, the latest 2 activities does not present any GPS problems. I'll continue without the app and test it for another 2 weeks.

    I'll update about the issue

  • Today is happended again. No 3rd party app installed. It seems is a watch problem.

Is there any folder on the watch where can I read debug logs of the activity?

Here is the activity that fail

  • Can you zip the fit file and insert it into your post? Might be able to take a deeper look at the data.

  • I'm not able to attach a file but here is a link to the zip on google drive

Same just happened to me:  Yesterday my Fenix5+ was updated to 14.0.0.0

Today it recorded everything, even on the watch I was able to see the turns I took.

After saving the activity, I see all stats, but the map cuts from Km2 to Km8. In the mobile app, I see the Km markers where they were supposed to be.

This is especially painful for since I was doing a challenge consisting on Running All Streets of a given town, and this was the last one.  I drove there.

No, I don't have any apps installed, only a watch face

Using fitfileviewer.com, on the fit file from the watch,  In the 2nd "record" section (1st "record" section has 425 rows so you may add 425 to find the absolute location).

Long/Lat info disappeared at row 276 (time: 1:11:01PM  distance 2180.49m)

Long/Lat info reappeared at row 2252 (time 1:45:10PM distance 8305.19m)

Recording is 1 second. (34m09s without Lat Long, including a 1m14 stop waiting for a light
